Central Focus:
The central focus was met as today the focus was on retelling the main events of the story. In order to do this, we used
the characters and setting as well. This was a great way to tie in all of the story elements on the third day of the unit and
allowed us to summarize and tell the lesson of the story.
Learning Experience Plan:
The process of reading the story and retelling went very smoothly. Because the final portion of the story was a bit
longer today, I did not get to the opinion piece of the lesson. Next time doing this I will extend the unit to five days in
order to break up the story more and add in more elements of the movie for comparing and contrasting.
Supporting Learning Plan:
The grouping for todays lesson was successful and gave a nice variety from the last two lessons. The materials were
successful especially the magnet characters because they gave visual learners a point of reference in the story.
Assessment/Monitoring Learning:
Because I did not get to the opinion portion of the lesson, the only assessment that was used was informal observation.
This was a great exercise for formative assessment and allowed me to see another side to the students. It was very
successful formative assessment. It was also helpful that I videotaped this lesson so I can go back and do more carful
observations of the students and myself.

Assessment/Monitoring required by student needs.
5/24/2016-rev.
I was successfully able to extend certain students thinking during the retelling exercise. I was able to up their level of
questioning in a few instances that allowed them to think beyond the text. This was the only way I was able to
differentiate in this particular exercise due to the group nature of the activity and the fact that I did not get to the final
opinion portion.
