TOPIC : : PERMUTATIONS AND COMBINATIONS (PERMUTATIONS)
LEARNING OBJECTIVES : Students will be taught to :
understand the concept of permutations
LEARNING OUTCOMES :
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to
Level (i) determine the number of ways event A happen followed by event B
(ii) determine the number of permutations for n items
Level determine the number of permutations of r elements taken n elements
Level (i) determine the number of permutations for n items with a certain
condition
(ii) determine the number of permutations of r elements taken n
elements with a certain condition
Activities :
Teacher introduces the ideas of permutations.
A permutation
is an arrangement of objects in different orders.
The order of the arrangement is important!!
The permutations are also known as factorial, as far as calculation is concerned.
Factorial of n or n! = 1 x 2 x 3 x x n.
The number of permutations on a set of n elements is given by
(n factorial)
n
The notation for a permutation:
Pr
n is the total number of objects
r is the number of objects chosen (want)
