Melinda Smith, M.A., Lawrence Robinson, and Jeanne Segal. Do You Have a Drinking Problem? Do You
Have a
Drinking Problem? Recognizing the Signs of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse and How
to Get Help, Oct.
Oct 2016.
In this article, Smith, Robinson, and Segal discusses being abusive with alcohol and how it can affect life
in a major way. Being addicted to alcohol can be passed down by genetics from a your parents that had abused
alcohol. Having an alcoholic in your family can be an emotional rollercoaster. In the article its explaining how
much alcohol can break down your body and split apart families. Alcoholics can split up marriages if the case
gets worse. People do as much as they can to help the situation whether it is putting them in a rehab center,
counseling, or doing as much with them as you can to keep them occupied and away from alcohol. Most
alcoholics become depressed and go through mood changes such as being bipolar. Smith, Kayla. Alcohol

This article explains how alcohol is a addiction and is not easy to stay away from. The statistics show that
adults who first used alcohol before they turned 15 are 7 times more likely to develop alcoholism than adults who
first used alcohol at the age of 21. People become addicted because of reasons such as to relieve anxiety or
depression or for a daily stress reliever to cope in life. Being addicted to alcohol can affect families, financial
stability, jobs, and health. Being an alcoholic can be for recreational use, for dependant use, or as an addiction.
Alcoholics rarely realize they have a problem until health consequences or relationship problems. Over forty
percent of emergency drug- related visits are because of alcohol abuse. This shows that alcohol not only hurts

you emotionally but can hurt you physically and can even lead to fatality. Alcoholics usually try and stop
drinking but are unable to because of body habits, and emotional distress due to not drinking, and feeling of
withdrawal of alcohol.

Drinking." WebMD. WebMD, n.d. Web. 18 Nov. 2016.
For alcohol abuse, there are many risk factors. Health problems like anemia, cancer, cardiovascular disease,
cirrhosis, dementia, pancreatitis, and seizures are all caused by over alcohol abuse. Alcohol can kill blood cells

and cause nerve damage and liver failure, and allows the person to be more prone to more diseases. There are a
total of 60 diseases that have been known to be caused of over digestion of alcohol. Alcohol abuse effects can be
as little as strokes and seizures and nerve damage to death from cancer or fatal diseases. Alcohol weakens the
heart and blood cells low blood sugar. Besides diseases, it can also cause depression and dementia, and have a
higher chance of getting HIV/AIDs during sexual transmission. Most alcoholics usually get into other drugs that
makes their case and their addiction worse. This article shows how alcohol abuse can affect a person's physical
and emotional health.
"Overview of Alcohol Consumption | National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)." U.S
National Library of Medicine. U.S. National Library of Medicine, n.d. Web. 18 Nov. 2016.
This article shows that because of alcohol abuse not only does it affect the person who is taking in the
alcohol but also affects other people around them. Alcohol abuse can lead to drinking and driving and can lead to
deaths of others and can affect the families and friends of the ones who were killed. It can also lead to suicide
and homicide which also affects the families and friends. Alcohol abuse can also lead to violent behavior and
mood changes that can lead to long term alcohol disorders. When people drink alcohol they see things differently
and can get mad over different things and take things differently. So, it can lead to hurting or injuries of someone
else. Alcoholic abuse is bad for families as well because they could get in the car or be around the alcoholic and
be in danger.

"Alcohol Abuse Treatment and Self-Help." Alcohol Abuse Treatment and Self-Help: How to Stop Drinking and
Start Recovery. N.p., n.d. Web. 18 Nov. 2016. This article shows that it's important for people to step out and try
and make a change. If someone is in your family that you should talk to them and try and stop them . they could
hurt themselves, family or friends, or strangers. I could stop alcohol abuse by making sure my parents don't drink
too much or other adults and make sure I don't get into the habit of drinking alcohol because i know that it can be
addicting. I could also reach out to others. The article mostly talks about self- help and how it's important for
alcohol abusers to go to rehab or counseling or anything that would be able to change their habits and addiction.
All of these articles really have shown me that alcohol abuse is worse than I imagined and that it can lead to a lot
of problems in life and affect others around me.
