Sarah, a 31 year old office manager, has three years experience in a further education
college. She is a single parent with a 14 year old son. Sarah had no savings and, although
she had missed two mortgage payments, had little other debt. She was very concerned
about covering her mortgage and everyday expenses for her and her son. Our specialist
money advisor helped her to identify ways to make savings and advised she completed
a grants application. We were able to award Sarah with a grant to cover two month’s
mortgage and council tax payments which prevented her getting into serious debt and
establish a new budget plan.

Martin is a university lecturer and has worked at the same university for the last 5 years. Martin was
referred to Recourse through the UCU as he had recently been off work following his teenage
son’s suicide.
He explained to our counsellor that neither he nor his wife had realised that their son was experiencing
any
problems and that his suicide had come as a complete shock. Martin was struggling to cope
and desperate
to see if there was anything he could have done to prevent it. Our counsellor had considerable
experience of
dealing with the aftermath of suicides, so the sessions really helped Martin to come to terms
with his grief
and learn how to support his wife and daughter. Martin was also directed towards other organisation
s who
could provide support and therapy for him and his family over the longer term.

How you can help us

those working in post 16 education.

Leave a gift in your will – By leaving a gift in your will,

however large or small, you can help ensure that we
continue to be here for our colleagues in the future.

Take part in a challenge event – Run the London

Marathon or walk the Great Wall of China – the choice is

idea for a fundraising event? We’re here to help you
make your event a success.
