A Second Course in Statistics: Regression Analysis

Seventh Edition
William Mendenhall and Terry Sincich
Prentice Hall

Course Objective:

Students will gain an understanding of regression methods

including simple linear regression, multiple linear regression,
model building, multicollinearity, time-series analysis and
logistic regression. Students will be able to perform
analyses using Excel and The SAS System.

Software:

While student may use any statistical software that they

might already know (e.g., R, SPSS) for assigned
homework and/or projects, the instructor will use Excel
and/or SAS for demonstration purposes.

Scope:

Introduction, Review of Relevant Statistical Concepts,

Simple Linear Regression, Multiple Regression, Model
Building, Detection and Remediation of Multicollinearity and
Autocorrelation, and (optionally) Logistic Regression.

Homework:

The purpose of homework in this class is to provide practice

and feedback to students and the instructor. Accordingly,
homework grades will primarily reflect completeness and
timeliness. You are required to submit your homework in two
ways: 1) on paper for the purpose of getting feedback, and
via Sakai for purposes of administration and the verification
or academic integrity. Late submissions will not be
accepted.

Grading:

Homework (20%), Mid-term Examination (40%), Final

Examination (40%)

Technology:

During the semester, the instructor will begin to use Poll

Everywhere and will introduce technologies that might be
mutually beneficial. The instructor, however, reserves the
right prohibit the use of electronic devices at any time. The
use of electronic devices will be prohibited during
examinations.

Electronic Communication: All communication shall be via Rutgers e-mail accounts,

or Sakai
Attendance:

Full participation in classes and examinations is expected of

all students. Students must inform the instructor in advance
about any anticipated excused absences. See the university
attendance regulation for university definitions of excused
absences.

Academic Integrity:
Rutgers has a policy on academic integrity, which you may find in the Code of
Student Conduct.
It is the understanding and expectation of the instructor that the student's
signature on any test or examination means that the student neither gave nor
received unauthorized aid.
All tests and homework submitted and must be your own, individual work.
