It was built in Plaek Phibunsongkhram chancellor period.
At that time, the purpose of
building the university hall project is for the utility of the commencement, the musical concert and the universitys ceremony ,e.g. the welcome party, the convention, the students performance etc. The building ,designed after the coup dtat-not the ancient styled one, is Thai contemporary like the European folk style one that was built. The hall is in the Thai traditional style with its remarkable Thai pattern. For the sake of Thai culture maintenance, They put the Thai ness into the part of building ,e.g. Thai-patterned carving. The roof is like the palaces roof with three roves upon for stating the rank of this place, to make a ceremony of bureaucrats or be an activity center of the university. There is the Phra Kiao, Chulalongkorn Universitys symbol, at the middle of the roof. To let heat out by wind, the building is surrounded by the windows and the facade and corridor are to be a sunshade or a rainshade in other case. The ratio of the entrance is up to the proper.(the corridor affect from the European style architecture) Because of the whole building is in the Thai traditional style, the new materials was applied to the Thai style architecture, such as concrete, iron, and glasses. The Casa optimism House is unlike the contemporary hall but their concepts are similar because they are affected by the European style architectures in the form of the aristocrats houses, the European merchandiser and American missionaries. The Casa optimism House is applied the European-Thai style concerned about the tropical climate through the thread-out roof, the aisle and the corridor. Being the sunshade and the rain shade, the facade designed in Thai house style get the hinge for using close and open. However, nowadays we applied the technologies to help us be comfortable included the modernity theme of house installing the air condition. The materials of the windows support with the glass, for the first layer and the hinge orderly. Although the glass windows were used in this house, the ventilation is acceptable. It is because of people always face with the heat wind, so they arent satisfied to open the windows. The most unlike to Thai style is the space. About the materials, the house is reinforced concrete; moreover, the windows and floors decorations are made of wood. The similarity of both places is the application usage of western style architecture along with the Thai style or contemporary style but the difference is the use of materials that make various perception concerned with the questions like who use the building? How to use it?
