For the WII-NTCA Collaborative Project

E-bird Technology for Tiger Conservation: Development and


Integration of Un-manned Aerial Vehicles (Drone) as a
Surveillance and Monitoring Tool for Protection of Tiger and
Capacity Building of Frontline Staff
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier autonomous Institute under the Ministry of
Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, in the field of wildlife
research, training and management. The WII wishes to engage 04 Project Interns for the
above-mentioned project for a period of 06 months (extendable) based on application
screening followed by an Interview (in person or Skype). Application deadline is 31st
January 2017 and selection will be made before 05 February 2017.

Description of
Work(s)

Engineer: Support (1) procurement, design and


assembling of fixed-wing and rotary-wing UAVs; (2) Fly
UAVs and training field staff for implementation at field
level. (3) Develop interface technology for telemetry
involving VHF/GPS/RFID tools; (4) Develop interface

technology and remote data transfer and automated data


collection through wireless communication; (5) In-house
development and technology transfer to field teams.
Biologist/Project Management: Support (1) modelling and
mapping human-wildlife conflict areas and identification
of vulnerable areas for human-wildlife conflicts; (2)
Identification and rationalization of surveillances sites in
the context of poaching risks; (3) undertake R&D for
animal telemetry based on VHF and RFID using UAV; (4)
habitat mapping and wildlife population estimation using
UAV; (5) maintenance of equipment; (6) file management
and communications.
* One Project Intern will be engaged at the Head Quarters to support the project
management including communication and liaise with field units.
GENERAL TERMS & CONDITIONS
1. Application in the prescribed format (appended below), duly signed and accompanied
by self attested copies of documents on educational qualifications, research
experience, UGC/CSIR/GATE certificate (if any), extracurricular activities, date of birth,
mark sheets of all examinations, contact number, email address, etc., should be
submitted by EMAIL to ramesh@wii.gov.in on or before 31st January 2017. It is
encouraged to submit the application as soon as possible well before the deadline,
since the screening would be done simultaneously and if suitable candidates were
found would be selected before the deadline.
2. The candidates will be selected based on Application Screening, followed by Interview
in Person or by Skype (optionally) through the period until 05th February 2017. Shortlisted candidates will be informed by email/phone for Interview in Person or Skype.
Selected candidates will be expected to join at the earliest to begin the project activities
in February 2017.
3. Candidates must clearly mention on the subject of email (a) UAV Project, (b) position
applied for (whether Project Intern (Engineer) or Project Intern (Biologist/Project
Management Unit) and (c) write whether opted for Interview in Person or Skype.
Write the Skype ID, E-mail Address, and Telephone Number(s) on the application
form.
4. The emolument is consolidated and no other allowances will be paid. The Institute will
not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview. No TA/DA will
be paid for attending the Interview or the cost of Skype call.
