CALCULATIONS

HRSG:
Data given and assumptions:
From the Gas turbine before we can get the following data:
Exhaust gas mass flow rate = 94.4 kg/s = 749218 Ib/h
T
Exhaust gas temperature = g 1 643 K = 697.73 F
- According to some data obtained from the previous study we reached to the
following assumptions:
W1
- Water feed temperature =
= 200 F
- Heat loss Factor = % 2
- Steam Saturation temperature at the evaporator = 388 F
- Steam Operational pressure = 200 psig
- Blow down = % 8
- Average gas specific heat at the evaporator = 0.27 Btu/Ib F
- Average gas specific heat at the economizer = 0.254 Btu/Ib F
- Finding the temperature drop and the its profile for the gas and steam in HRSG
can be obtained throughout several steps as the followings:
Step 1: Assumptions of Pinch and Approach points:
- For unfired GT and HRSG usually the pinch point anf the approach point lies
between 15 30 F, and the higher these values the smaller size of the boiler which
will safe more cost and vice versa. So, we choose these points to be:
- Pinch point = 20 F
- Approach point = 15 F
So the gas temperature leaving the evaporator = 388 + 20 = 408 F ,
And the water temperature entering the evaporator = 388 -15 = 373 F ,
Step 2: The Evaporator duty:
- The evaporator duty = Gas mass flow rate x heat loss factor x gas specific
heat x gas temperature Diff at the evaporator
Evaporator duty = 749218 0.98 0.27 ( 697.73408 )=57.43 MMBtu/h
Step 3: Determining of the enthalpy absorbed by the steam at the evaporator:
- Enthalpy absorbed by steam at the evaporator = (Enthalpy of saturated steam
enthalpy of water entering evaporator )+ blow down

factor ( enthalpy of saturated water enthalpy of

water entering the evaporator )
Enthalpy absorbed by steam at the evaporator = (1199.2 - 345) + 0.08 (362.2- 345)
= 855.57 Btu / Ib
Step 4: Finding the steam generated:

Steam generated =

Evaporator Duty
Enthaply obsorberd

57.43 x 10 6
855.57

= 67132.51 Ib/ h

Step 5: Determining of the Economizer duty:

Economizer duty = steam generated X blow down factor x water enthalpy
difference at economizer
Economizer duty = 67132.51 x 1.08 x (345 165.99)
= 12978781.8 Btu/h
Step 6 Calculate Exhaust gas temperature drop:
Exhaust gas temp drop =

Economizer Duty
Gas mass flow rate x heatloss factor x specific heat

12978781.8
= 749281 x 0.98 x 0.253

= 69.86 F

Step 7: Calculate the gas temperature leaving the economizer:

Gas temperature leaving the economizer = 408 69.86 = 338.14 F
Step 8: Drawing the temperature profile:

697.73
F

408
F

Tsat =
