Chapter/
This is the review of the variations which were seldom ecountered at the
previous top class tournaments, and recently they have not been played
almost at all, because the black equalize without great problems.

Chapter II
This variation is employed when the white does not want to plly the
main variations, by the move 2 'ee2 wants to make difficult for the black
to move d5 and to prevent too early simplifications in the center. The white
ends development by fi:Jp, g3, iLg2, and the black tends, by the moves c5,
/l)c6, to controle the square d4.

Chapter Ill
One of the most popular methods of avoiding the main variations is the
Fianchetto variation. The white wants by (i)d2, and g3, i.g2, 0-0, to
transpose to King's Indian with a tempo more and the inverse colours of
figures.

Chapter V
This variation was previosly employed by white players if they wanted to
play a draw, as owing to too early changes and symmetrical st7ucture,
without the possibility for pawn penetration, this variation was considered
peaceable. However, recently, the white have found ways in the fight for
initiative; consequently it is more and more present in the top class
tournaments, and it was employed even by a world champion Kasparov.

Cluzpter VI
The main idea of the white in the blockade variation is, by the blockade
of center, to take the surplus space on the King's side and thus to make
difficult the black development of the King's side. The black tends, by
undermining the centre by c5 and by a rapid development of the Queen's
side, to keep the balance. In recent years, it has been increasingly employed
in top class tournaments, especially thanks to grand master Sveshnikov.

Chapter VII
Ta"asch 's variation is very often met at grand master tournaments.
White implements this variation, because he does not want to block the
center too early, although knight is better on the square c3 and this
variation can be very unpleasant, especially if played by good positional
players.

Chapter VIII
This has lately been the most popular variation selected by the white,
not desiring too early simplifications and the blockade of the center, and the
knight on the square c3 stands more active, then on square d2, as in
Tarrasch 's variation. This time the black counterattack c5 is made
impossible, so he fights to provoke the blockade, weaken the pressure on
the point d5 and then seeks counter play by attacking the pawn wedge by c5,
