FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGINEERING EXAM

Fundamentals of Engineering Exam Preparation


The Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) examination is administered byNCEES
(http://ncees.org/exams/)throughout the year, during the months of January, February, April,
May, July, August, October, and November. NCEES policy allows an examinee to take the FE
exam once during a two-month window, and no more than three times during a twelvemonth period.

Why should the FE Exam be taken?


Right to publicly represent yourself as an engineer
Opportunity to work as a consultant
Recognition that you have the necessary academic and professional experience to practice
in the engineering profession
Once registered by the exam, you can usually obtain, by reciprocity, the right to practice in
other states
Added value to you in the job market

Who can take the FE exam?


The Fundamentals of Engineering examination is a computer-based exam with supplied
reference information consisting of a morning session and a afternoon session. The
examination is discipline specic. The FE exam is held at Pearson VUE testing centers. The
NCEES policy allows examinees to take the FE exam once during any two-month testing
window, and no more than three times in a twelve-month period.
The following individuals are eligible to take the FE Examination:
An undergraduate student who is within two full-time semesters (not including summer
sessions) of graduating and who is enrolled in an EAC/ABET-accredited engineering
program, a TAC/ABET-accredited four year baccalaureate technical program or an

engineering-related science program of four years or more that has been approved by the
Board.
A graduate student enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. engineering program may take the FE
exam.

TAMU Measurement & Research Services (750 Agronomy Rd.) is an approved test center
location.

Preparing for the FE exam


The Civil Engineering Department at Texas A&M maintains a website that is very helpful in
preparing for the FE Exam (http://engineeringregistration.tamu.edu). It includes links to:
streaming video review materials, information on videotaped review sessions, a listserv for
students interested in Engineering Registration, and a reference manual.
