Rehearsal Decorum

Singing with a choir is physically and mentally challenging yet very rewarding, and is a good destressor in medical school! Whether its your first time singing with a choir or youre a seasoned
performer, here are a few guidelines to help you maximize your experience with Vox this year
and ensure that every rehearsal is fun and stress-free for everyone:
1. Come on time. This applies not only to rehearsals, but also to performances, meetings,
and official organizational events. This shows tact and professionalismremember,
youre not the only one whos busy.
2. Give us a heads up if youll be absent, late, or you have to leave early, so we know
whether or not to expect you. For anticipated absences, tardiness, make sure to sign the
REDTAF (Rehearsal Early Departure, Tardiness, and Absence Form) before 12nn on the
day of the rehearsal. If its unexpected, let Kuya Aries (our VP for Internals) or your
respective section heads know. If you dont sign the REDTAF Form or let us know that
you wont be there, we will be expecting you.
3. Be prepared. Bring your copy of the pieces, as well as a pen for making notes. If the
piece was given ahead of time or you were informed of the repertoire, study it in advance
or listen to the song online.
4. Focus and listen to the conductor or musical director when they are teaching the song,
even if they are not teaching your section. They might be teaching parts that are similar to
your sections or addressing issues that are relevant to you and your section.
5. Turn off your electronic devices during rehearsals or set them into silent mode.
Rehearsals are only 2 hours a day, 2 days a week, so be 100% present whenever you are
there. Refrain from texting, going on Facebook, or playing games. If you need to take
important calls, you may step out of the room quietly.
6. If you will eat and/or drink during rehearsals, please do so quickly and make sure you
do not distract other members. (But you can eatwe know youre busy, hungry, and
youve had a long day in class! Just avoid eating noisy food, like chips, or food
packaged in foil)
7. Avoid talking during rehearsals as a sign of respect for the conductor, and to avoid
distracting your peers. If you need to ask questions relevant to the piece being studied, be
discreet.
8. Do not study/cram requirements during rehearsals. Again, as a sign of respect to
everyone else youre working with. Besides, youre probably not going to absorb what
youre reading anyway with everything going on.
9. Keep the practice room tidy. Lets help our personnel in school out by putting back
chairs in their proper places and collecting our litter after rehearsals.
10. Respect everyonethe conductor, musical director, and your fellow singers. Chorale
singing is a group activity which requires group effort, so each and every person in the
room is important.
