Scope

Thisdatasheetappliesforhot-andcold-rolledsheetandstrip,semi-finishedproducts,barsand
profilesaswellasseamlessandweldedtubes/pipes.



Application

Forcomponentswhichneedtoberesistanttoscalinguptoaround1,150Candlargelyinsensitiveto
theeffectsofsulfurousgases.Thereisanaveragetendencytowardcarburizationinthepresenceof
reducinggases.

Ferriticchromiumsteelsareheat-sensitive.Forthisreason,heatinputshouldbeminimizedwhen
weldingTK1.4762throughtheuseofsmallerdiameterelectrodes,alowcurrentandthestringerbead
weldingtechnique.

Forsheetthicknessesbelow3mm,TK1.4762doesnotrequirepre-heating.Forthickercomponents
(>3mm),thepre-heatingandinterpasstemperaturesshouldnotexceedorfallbelow200300C.

TK1.4762canbeweldedwithferriticorausteniticfillermaterials.Forsulfurousatmospheres,aferritic
coverpassshouldbelaidonthesidefacingthemedium(ThermanitL1.4820).



Cold processing

WhencoldprocessingTK1.4762,certainprecautionarymeasuresmustbeobserved.Sheetupto3
mmthickmaybecoldformedor,ifnecessary,mustbepre-heatedto200300Cbeforeforming.

Productsthickerthan>3mmmustbeheatedto600800Cbeforeprocessing;TK1.4762canbe
machinedinthesamewayasalow-carbonsteel.



Embrittlement

HeatingTK1.4762toaboveapprox.950Ccausesembrittlementduetograingrowthwhichcannot
beeliminated.

Furtherembrittlementoccursinthe400to550Ctemperaturerange(475Cembrittlement).Long
dwelltimesinthistemperaturerangeshouldbeavoided.Brieflyheatingthematerialtotemperatures
between700and800Celiminatesthislossofductility.

Inthe600900Ctemperaturerange,1.4762issusceptibletosigma-phaseembrittlementwiththe
resultthattoughnessvaluesdeclinesharplyafterlongperiodsinthistemperaturerange.Thesteel
shouldnotbeusedinthistemperaturerangeifitissubjecttomechanicalstresses.




Remark

TK1.4762ismagnetizable.
