"The harvest is great, but the workers are few.

Pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, and ask

Him to send out more workers for His fields. Go now,
and remember that I am sending you out.
(Luke 10:2-3a)

2013 CHURCH PLANTERS

encounter

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA AUG 14-17

CrossPointe Conference Center

Welcome to the Church Planters Encounter and Workshop!

This time promises to be a rich encounter with Gods Spirit that can
guide us into making more disciples and planting more churches. These
churches will bring personal and community transformation and rescue
more people from hell.
This week offers a rare opportunity to make new friends for a lifetime
who share your passion for Christ and reaching lost people for Jesus.
We will succeed because God is with us and He loves lost people more
than any one else!
We will learn some practical skills from successful leaders that will help
your church plant to grow as the church did in the books of Acts. With
love, hard work and perseverance, we can plant life-giving churches
that will multiply until the Lord comes.

1st Steps Church Planting Encounter
with Gary Rohrmayer
Gary Rohrmayer is President of Converge America.
His planting
teams have successfully planted
hundreds of churches in recent years. He is going to
offer the practical steps and wisdom to help others
succeed equally well. Gary loves teaching how to
bring people to Jesus and see them
become a part of new church plants.

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others
and to give his life as a ransom for many." Mark 10:45
The servant leader is servant firstIt begins with the natural feeling
that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings
one to aspire to leadthe difference manifests itself in the care taken
by the servant - first to make sure that others peoples highest priority
needs are being served.
The best test, difficult to administer, is: do those served grow as
persons; do they, while being served, become healthier, wise, freer,
more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And
what is the effect on the least privileged in society? Will they benefit,
or at least, not be further deprived? ~ Robert K. Greenleaf
After washing their feet, he put on his
robe again and sat down and asked,
Do you understand what I was doing?
You call me Teacher and Lord, and
you are right, because thats what I am.
And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have
washed your feet, you ought to wash
each others feet. I have given you an
example to follow. Do as I have done to
you. I tell you the truth; slaves are not
greater than their master. Nor is the
messenger more important than the
one who sends the message. Now that
you know these things, God will bless
you for doing them. John 13:14-17

CITIES AS NEW GLOBAL COMMUNITIES

The ends of the earth have now settled in our Jerusalems - our
hometowns and citiesand present unique opportunities for
engagement with people of different cultures. Within the boroughs of
New York is a Dominican city of 500,000, a West Indian city of 800,000,
A Haitian city of 200,000 in Queens, two China Towns of over 100,000,
80,000 Greeks, 200,000 Jews, 40,000 Hindus, 150,000 Arabs and
Middle Easterners. (Excerpted from To Transform A City by Eric
Swanson and Sam Williams)

Psalm 107, called the city psalm, has come to a new prophetic
fulfillment in our time. Consider its meaning for a new season of
harvest through the creation of new missional communities and the
opening of new church plants.
They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way; they found no city
to dwell in. Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them. Then they
cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their
distresses. And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go
to a city of habitation. Oh that men would praise the LORD for his
goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! For he
satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
Psalm 107:4-9

Church Planters Encounter 2012

THEOLOGY OF PLACE
Developing a theology of place helps a church planter settle their
heart in the city of Gods calling and focus, undistracted from the
mission given them by God. There appears an unconditional
confidence that God is already at work now and that the planter gets to
join God in His redemptive plan and work in that city. For we are His
workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works. Brad Smith writes:
There is a theology of place. God calls us to a place to be present;
totally immersed as His agent of transforming presence. We are called
to commit to a location for time periods and servethere. Many people
describe a theology of place as dutysomething you commit to in
order to be an effective minister. For me it was almost a romancein
these places we experienced great frustrationin our lives and in the
lives of people we loved. But somehow God provides a peace and a joy
that surpass understanding, that comes in a package deal with His call
to a place. Excerpt from City Signals by Brad Smith (p.127-128)
Gods Placement: And hath made of one blood all nations of men for
to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times
before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; That they should
seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though
he be not far from every one of us: Acts 17:26-27
Gods Peace: whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem
unto Babylon; Build ye houses, and dwell in them; and plant gardens,
and eat the fruit of them; Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters;
and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that

10

they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and
not diminished. And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused
you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in
the peace thereof shall ye have peace. Jeremiah 29:4-7
Gods Promise: And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, all
power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and
teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of
the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always,
even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:18-20
Gods Purpose: Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and
ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your
fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my
name, he may give it you. These things I command you, that ye love one
another. John 15:16-17
