Review of the Week

The Great Gatsby, by F.
Scott Fitzgerald, has
become a loved classic
in American literature for
its relatable characters
and its unpredictable
plots. In my opinion, I
agree that there is a
special draw to the book
that compels you want to
keep reading. I
personally liked the
drama and suspense in
the book, it would make
me want to keep reading
more. What I noticed the
most about the book was
how important the point
of view was of the
narrator. Nick Carraway
was the main narrator
who experienced the
plots and challenges
himself in the book. I
think the idea of him
explaining things from an
outside perspective of
those who were really
involved in the situation
gave the readers more
interest because they
were able to tie the clues
themselves. If Daisy,
Tom, or Gatsby were the
narrators, the storyline
would be more direct

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald,

properly known as F. Scott
Fitzgerald, is one of the many
infamous 20th century writers
people know today. Born in the
year 1896, Francis grew up
living in St. Paul, Minnesota
with his family where his writing
career first sparked. At the age
of 13, he developed a talent for
writing, which encouraged his
family to move him into a
prestigious preparatory school
far from home. There, he
excelled in his work and formed
a higher writing ambition
thanks to his teacher, Father
Sigourney Fay. Fitzgerald then
graduated in hopes to finish his
schoolwork at Princeton
University. Unfortunately, after
failing numerous times to
publish and reaching academic
probation, Fitzgerald had
dropped out of college and
joined the army.
He was then commissioned as a
second lieutenant to Alabama,
where he met his soon to be
wife, Zelda. After the war
ended, Fitzgerald published his
first novel, This Side of
Paradise, and was finally
considered worthy to marry the
love of his life. He then began
to publish more successful
novels, such as his classic book,

Entertainment

Sports
Babe Ruth, has brought the game
of American baseball to the
attention of many across the
country. Just recently, the
professional athlete has broken
the previous record of 54 home
runs ever hit in one season in the
National Baseball League. During
a regular season game against
the Washington Senators, Ruth
changed baseball history by
reaching 60 home runs in the
season. After signing to the New
York Yankees in 1920, Babe has
proven himself to be an everyday
player in the outfield and at bat.
Not only has he further elaborated
baseball altogether, he has
become a hero for Yankee fans. So
far in his career, he has helped

The 1920s have been a decade of women everywhere.

Women across the country are defying against traditional
social expectations and are also raising the bar in
achievements. For instance, the fashion icon, Coco Chanel
is changing the style of womens clothing around the world.
I was lucky to enough to sit down and have a short
interview with her about her accomplishments and how she
intends to change the future.
Q: When did you begin to develop your love of fashion?
CC- Well, I was first taught how to sew
by nuns when I was staying in an orphanage. I worked as a
peddler there until around age 20, I was given financial aid
from a good friend at the time to start my own business in
Paris.
Q: How did you come up with the name Coco?
CC: I stemmed it from the French word,
cocotte, meaning kept woman. I first used the name
when I performed in clubs as a singer before I got into
Only
fashion.

Q: What do you believe sparked your fame?

CC: I was first noticed after I had made a dress
out of a worn out jersey I had. People were complimenting
me and asking where I had bought it. I offered to make
some for them which I believe started my career.

Q: What do you hope to do for the future of womens

fashion?
CC: I want to change the pressure
of womens clothing. I believe girls should not have to wear
restricting and uncomfortable garments. I hope my clothing
gives girls the idea to express themselves and be happy
with their looks.

Climax
Climax in a novel or a movie is the pinnacle of the crisis or plan the characters
experience. It is mainly built up throughout the entire story, then it is eventually
brought down by the resolution after. For instance, in The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, the climax of the novel is when George Wilson murdered Jay Gatsby.
Throughout the book, the main build up was Jay and Daisys relationship, when Jay
died it ended the development of the two. Then, it was soon followed by the
resolution which was when Nick Caraway had planned his funeral and the story had
finished.
