Becoming an effective teacher

Motivation: is the energizing stimulus behind all forms of learning. It is

also the desire to do things. Encouragement can be increased when we want to
change our life. Motivation can help us live a life that reflects our true potential. It
can transform attitude. Motivation is classified into two categories: extrinsic and
intrinsic motivation.

Extrinsic: to engage in an activity to receive some incentive (students did not

choose to learn on their own)

Intrinsic: to be involved in activity for its own sake. (The goal is that students truly
desire, or want to solve a problem)

Essential teaching skills are the abilities that all teachers, including those in
their first years of teaching, demonstrate as they help their students learn.

Its the ability to be well organized and ask guiding questions. Example: Class,
today we are going to study marine science. Class, can you tell me the meaning of
the words marine and science?

Teaching beliefs and behaviors: acting and knowing that I can make a difference.

Organization: Being prepared in advance. Focus. Review. Question. Feedback.

Closure and Application.

1) Direct Instructional: This is a foundation of strategies that students need

for future learning. Example: Basic mathematics, counting one to hundred,
learning how to add, subtract, asking questions to make sure they
understand.

2) Lecture discussion: Is an instructional strategy designed to help the

teacher interact with the students while presenting information. Example:

lecture about primary colors; ask questions like how many primary colors can
you see in the rainbow? Or have a prism on hand to share with the class.

3) Guided discovery: Is an instructional strategy that involves teachers

providing students with the information and then guiding them to an
understanding of the concept and generalizations. Example: Present fruits
and vegetables to the class; ask them to separate by categories one time and
the next by color explaining to the class about vitamins that we get from both.

4) Cooperative learning: Is a set of instructional strategies used to help

learners to meet specific learning and social-interaction objectives. For
example in a class of thirty students, divide them into groups of three,
making sure each one has input on the subject.

My plan is to constantly be interacting with the children and asking

questions on the subject being explained to them. I then give a small quiz at the end
to see how the class is assimilating the information.

I must know my objectives that I want to teach, and plan a way to monitor
their understanding of the material. I then collect and analyze the information so
that I may report the results to the students or parents to help in their
advancement.
