CN-id: WN80835: Firmware SW Mismatch (2056) with FSMF A103
112962ESPE01 - Firmware SW Mismatch (2056) with FSMF A103

Description of the fault:

Smart modular SSD USB devices may have had a faulty firmware version. This utility checks, whether the
firmware on the device is older than the firmware in the root file system; if this is the case, it'll run the
update. Otherwise it'll just print out that SSD update is not needed. There's a DDAL API function call
ddal_ssd_firmware_is_updated available. This API is used by higher layer software to check whether the
SSD firmware is up to date but DDAL API, it returns always-3 in case the firmware on the SSD is not
equal to the firmware in the file system, so even in case the SSD firmware is latest version

Description of the correction:

Firmware update tool has been added to the root file system of PS releases. Function SSDfirmware
implemented to check and identify newer SSD versions than the SSD firmware included in root file system
as "updated"

CN-id: WN80865: Lower UL throughput due to under-utilization of UL cell resources.

HSDPA fails due to UE

Description of the Fault:

MUKSU resynchronization should not be performed runtime since it will cause phase jump for all
established active links and decreases performance. Reset is only recovery if synchronization is lost or
phase jump is detected.

Description of the Correction:

MUKSU resynchronization shall not be allowed during runtime. This way indication of MUKSU
unsynchronized state remains active and only way to recovery is BTS reset.

Firmware SW Mismatch (2056) with FSMF A103

Version of the SW-build:

WN8.0_1308_555_88

Valid for Product(s):

Flexi WCDMA Base Station

References:

Reason for the Change Note:

Summary of the original problem:
Higher layer SW is checking firmware using the DDAL API and due to incorrect value -3 instead of the
expected 0 return value, which will cause error alarm 2056 Firmware SW mismatch

Description of the fault:

Smart modular SSD USB devices may have had a faulty firmware version. This utility checks, whether the
firmware on the device is older than the firmware in the root file system; if this is the case, it'll run the
update. Otherwise it'll just print out that SSD update is not needed.
There's a DDAL API function call ddal_ssd_firmware_is_updated available. This API is used by higher
layer software to check whether the SSD firmware is up to date but DDAL API, it returns always-3 in case
the firmware on the SSD is not equal to the firmware in the file system, so even in case the SSD firmware
is latest version

Description of the correction:

Firmware update tool has been added to the root file system of PS releases.
Function SSDfirmware implemented to check and identify newer SSD versions than the SSD firmware
included in root file system as "updated"

Reason for the Change Note:

Summary of the original problem:
HS throughput decreased in DL and UL in low loaded cells

Description of the fault:

BTS reduces the UE bitrates from 2ms UEs to zero bit rate, and they recovering back to original bit rate is
delayed

Description of the correction:

BTS reduction of UE bitrates is modified to be less aggressive, 2ms users can still go zero bit rate but the
downgrading situations are reduced. Even when the reduction happens to zero bit rate, UE will recover to
certain minimum bit rate faster

2.2 Precondition for updating RU40 BTS SW release to FSIA/FSIB site

- WN7.0 2.3 BTS SW release is required to be operative in the BTS.

- Update can be performed only to the WN8.0 4.1 or later RU40 BTS SW releases.

2.2.1 Network cluster update with a RU40 BTS SW release not supporting FSIA/FSIB

When introducing RU40 release upgrade which is not supporting FSIA/FSIB into a network cluster,
it is required to exclude out the sites with FSIA/FSIB in the SW download & activation tasks in
NetAct SW Management for avoiding an incompatible SW release to become accidentally
upgraded to the FSIA/FSIB site.

2.2.2 Recovery in case of not supported BTS SW update was proceeded

1. Update and roll back the WN7.0 2.3 BTS SW into operation
2. Update to WN8.0 4.1 release or later BTS SW release

NOTE.
FSIA/FSIB support is described in TS_RAN_SW_0038_I1 (FSIA and FSIB support in RU4
BTS SW releases) Technical Support Note

3 PREPARATIONS

3.1 License Conversion when using Rel2 Flexi System Module (FSME)

When upgrading from RU30 to RU40, Baseband conversion already has been done. License
conversion is no longer needed when upgrading from RU30 to RU40.

Consequently the technical note 148 is obsolete when upgrading from RU30 to RU40.

As optional step after having upgraded to RU40, the BBReconf - tool can be applied, which offers
the possibility to modify some baseband configurations, mainly to change of processing sets or
Rel.99 CEs.

FTOA, FTPB, FTFA, FTIA and FTJA. Latest WN6.0 MP4.4 or WN7.0 must be downloaded to units
before WN8.0 4.1 can be downloaded.

Production SW changed in July 2013 and is supporting direct SWDL.

Limitations and requirements of system upgrade:

All network entities (NetAct, RNC, and BTS) have to be at RU40 SW level to activate RU40
features.

For managing the entire RU40 feature set, NetAct 5.4CD3 PP2 is a prerequisite. Performing
commissioning or troubleshooting must be preceded with BTS Site Manager which has been
upgraded to WN8.0 level.
HSPA+ features supported in Flexi Multimode system module (Rel2 SM is present as master or
extension module).

See TS 3GBTS-SW-0184 Technical Note:

After BTS is upgraded to WN8.0 its mandatory to modify WCEL- PtxOffsetExxCHSHO and WCEL-
PtxOffsetFDPCHSHO parameters to value 0 dB (default value is 3 dB).

BTS Site Manager Installation wizard will guide you through the installation of NSN BTS Site
Manager.

Instructions of installing BTS Site Manager SW for users workstation are described in:

The commissioning manuals are included in WCDMA RAN Rel. RU40 Product documentation and
WN8.0 BTS release documentation.

6.2 SW Download and activation instructions with BTS Site Manager

FSMF modules are delivered from factory with pre-installed LTE SW. The WCDMA upgrade is
supported only from the pre-installed LTE SW or WN7.0 3.0 WCDMA SW.

BTS site manager compatibility

WCDMA Site Manager can be used to update BTS SW. After clicking Connect button (Local for
IP address), Site Manager warns about incompatible software version. You can proceed to update
WCDMA SW by clicking the Update SW button. Only the SW update functionality is available in
WCDMA Site Manager until WCDMA SW is activated.

DN0989934 Release Upgrade Instructions

Page 9/14 Nokia 2014

If LTE Site Manager has been installed to PC, it will be selected automatically to use as most
compatible version and you can do SW update with LTE Site Manager. WCDMA Site Manager will
be automatically selected to use after WCDMA SW is activated.

Additional security enhancement

Feature (RAN2423, SW verification Agent) enhances the security of the software downloaded and
activated. Secure boot enforces the verification and execution of trusted software. The software
that verifies the integrity of the executable software is called Software Verification Agent.

Before the software update, the software-update packages are downloaded using secure file
transfer method and stored securely in the network element. The network element calculates hash
value of the software, signs the hash, and stores it together with the software package.

With the hard security enabled, the BTS executes only verified software. The hash value of the
software package is calculated again and compared with the stored and signed hash value. If the
hash values match, the software is executed. If the verification of software package fails in SW
activation phase, activation is stopped and alarm is raised. If the verification of software package
fails in BTS startup, SW fallback is executed and BTS verifies the fallback software package.

WN8.0 4.1 upgrade to unit with pre-installed WCDMA SW WN7.0_1302_375_00 or above:

WN7.0_1302_375_00 has hard security enabled. Upgrade is done directly to the WCDMA SW:

1. Download and activate package WN8.0_1308_1090_69 (WN8.0 4.1)

Note:
In this case (When Rel3 BTS SW is upgraded from RU30 EP2 to RU40 level) the parameter
numberOfCcchSet (number of CCCH processing sets) needs to be commissioned manually after
the SW update unless all the cells can be allocated in free CCCH capacity.

Free CCCH capacity is described in Dimensioning Guide. Free CCCH capacity is equal to the
capacity of one CCCH processing set - It can hold e.g. 3x20km 2-way Rx cells or 6x10km 2-way
Rx cells. Dimensioning Guide describes also how to calculate number of CCCH processing sets
that BTS needs.

WN8.0 4.1 upgrade to unit with pre-installed LTE SW LN4.0_ENB_1202_781_57 (A.103) or

LN4.0_ENB_1202_696_00 (A.102):

Upgrade is done directly to the WCDMA SW:

1. Download and activate package WN8.0_1308_1090_69 (WN8.0 4.1)

Note:

1. There has been occasional observation of Fault 1802 with 3*FSP and FRGQ Configuration
and LN4.0_ENB_1202_781_57 factory SW. But this does not impact WCDMA SW and is
cleared with the WCDMA package.

SW upgrade steps:
Note.
If the BTS site has connection to the NetAct, the NetAct will manage the SW (that is, checks the
SW version and, if it is different than the SW in the NetAct database, downloads new SW).

After clicking the Update SW button, the Update SW to BTS Site dialog box will be opened. If LTE
Site Manager is in use, choose the Software Update SW to BTS Site menu item to open the
Update SW to BTS Site dialog box.

1. Click the Select File button to locate the master file containing the new software.

The Select Build Descriptor dialog box opens.

Locate and select the master file (TargetBD.xml or SW package zip file), and click the
Open button. If you select the zip file, the files will be decompressed when you click
Open.
The Select Build Descriptor dialog box closes and the new SW version is displayed in the
Update SW to BTS Site dialog box.

2. Select the Activate SW after Update check box to enable the activation of the new
software in accordance with SW updating.

Note.
If you do not want to activate the new software at the same time with updating it, you can leave the
option unchecked, and the SW is downloaded to the BTS site in the background only. To activate
the SW later with Activate SW after Update selected, you have to perform the SW update again.

3. Click the Update button.

The Update Progress steps show the transfer status of files. DL time depends on DCN
and amount of downloaded data.

Wait for the SW update is complete notification. If the Activate SW after Update check
box was selected, the SW will be activated and the site will be reset.

Note.
If the SW down load fails, update the software again

1. If you want to view information on the SW download, click the View Report button.

The Software Update Report dialog box opens.

1. Click the Close button to close the dialog box.

7 WCDMA BTS LICENCE FREE PERIOD

When a new BTS site is taken into use, the BTS can be commissioned at the site directly to its
definitive operating configuration and features, and download the required licenses remotely later
on.

License management late activation enables the use of all licensed features without license
restrictions for 14 days, starting from SW upgrade and establishing connection to the NTP server.

If the 14 days trial period has been exceeded, still the O&M remote connection to a BTS can be
maintained and LKs can be imported to BTS via NetAct License management or via BTS Site
Manager.

8 CONNECTING TO A BTS AND AUTHENTICATION MANAGEMENT

Authentication is always enabled either with a default username/password (Nemuadmin /

nemuuser) or user defined username/password. Therefore correct username and password must
be used to log on to the BTS.

8.1 Flexi BTS

Flexi BTS is managed using BTS Site Manager which manages both BTS and TRS.

Settings for connection:

IP Settings for PC (straight Ethernet cable is needed to connect to the FCM LMP port):
- PC IP address 192.168.255.126,
- Subnet mask 255.255.0.0 (with 128 mask, FTM is not visible in the BTS Site Manager view),
- Gateway is not defined

IP settings can be tested test by pinging to 192.168.255.129 and 192.168.255.16 addresses.
