Summary
IMPORTANT: Use these manual removal instructions for VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i only if automatic removal is not an option or is not successful.
Order in which to try removal:
1. Standard Add/Remove programs option in Windows. (Preferred method)

2. MSIEXEC.EXE
For full details on how to remove VirusScan Enterprise via the command line using msiexec.exe, see KB52648 (index?page=content&id=KB52648) .
3. Manual removal
Full instructions below. It might be advisable to create a script that removes the relevant registry keys. See Workaround below.
Solution 1
Use MSIEXEC.EXE to remove remnants (When Add/Remove programs option is not available).
Sometimes you can remove VirusScan Enterprise remnants using the MSIEXEC.EXE with the products installation string. This can save time and is recommended
before undertaking the manual removal procedure.

Solution 2
IMPORTANT: The following instructions are intended to be used as a last resort for removing VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i. Before attempting a manual removal, try all
other methods first. Administrators should use discretion when employing this solution.
CAUTION: This article contains information about opening or modifying the registry.
The following information is intended for System Administrators. Registry modifications are irreversible and could cause system failure if done incorrectly.
Before proceeding, McAfee strongly recommends backing up your registry and understanding the restore process. For more information, see:

Do not run a .REG file that is not confirmed to be a genuine registry import file.
STEP 1 - Remove Common Management Agent (CMA) reference for VirusScan Enterprise
1. Click Start, Run.

2. Type: <CMA install folder>\FRMINST.exe /REMOVE=Updater /PRODUCT=Viruscan8600 and press ENTER.
IMPORTANT: The product designation for VSE 8.5i is Virusscan8600, not Virusscan8500.
Example: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\frminst.exe /remove=updater /product=Viruscan8600
NOTE: The default location for the CMA installation folder is: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework.
STEP 2 - Unregister with Checkpoint

2. Type: <VirusScan install folder>\PIREG.EXE /d <VirusScan install folder>\MCAVSCV.DLL and press ENTER.
NOTE: The default location for the VirusScan installation folder is: C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise.
STEP 3 - Remove the Anti-Spyware Module (if installed)

2. Type: <VirusScan install folder>\scan32.exe /UninstallMAS and press ENTER.
STEP 4 - Remove Lotus Scanner

2. Type: <VirusScan install folder>\NCDAEMON.exe -remove and press ENTER.
STEP 5 - Delete Registry Keys - Part 1
1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and press ENTER.

2. Locate each of the following keys, right-click each key, and select Delete:

STEP 6 - Unload vsplugin.dll (if ePolicy Orchestrator Agent is installed)
1. Locate the following registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\ViruScan8600]
2. Right-click the key ViruScan8600.

3. Select New, DWORD Value.
4. Rename the New Value #1 value to Plugin Flag and press ENTER.
5. Right-click Plugin Flag and select Modify.
6. In the Value Data field type 8 and click OK.
STEP 7 - Stop VirusScan Services

IMPORTANT: Your system will be unprotected after this step. For security, you may want to disconnect from the network before you continue.
1. Click Start, Programs, McAfee, VirusScan Console.

2. Right-click Access Protection and select Disable.
3. Close the VirusScan Console.
4. Click Start, Run, type NET STOP McShield, and press ENTER.
5. Click Start, Run, type NET STOP McTaskManager, and press ENTER.
1. Search the Windows Registry for and delete instances of 40C30C53F1F32C249A987A75EE96F156:

a. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and press ENTER.
b. Select Edit, Find, type 40C30C53F1F32C249A987A75EE96F156, and click Find Next.
c. Right-click any matching key found and select Delete.
NOTE: Delete the parent key if there are no other values in the key.

STEP 9 - Delete VirusScan Services
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ControlSet001\Services\McShield]
2. Right-click the key and select New, DWORD Value.

3. Rename the New Value #1 value to DeleteFlag and press ENTER.
4. Right-click DeleteFlag and select Modify.
5. In the Value Data field type 1.
6. Create another new DWORD value named VSEFlag and change the Value Data to 1.

8. Create a DWORD value named DeleteFlag with a value of 1.
9. Create a DWORD value named VSEFlag with a value of 1.
STEP 10 - Uninstall VirusScan Drivers
1. Select Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.

2. Locate the VirusScan installation folder.
Example: cd \program files\mcafee\virusscan enterprise
3. Type the following command, then press ENTER:
mfehidin.exe -u mfeavfk.sys mfeapfk.sys mfebopk.sys mfehidk.sys mfetdik.sys
STEP 11 - Unregister DLLs
1. Select Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.

2. Navigate to the VirusScan installation folder.
NOTE: By default, the VirusScan installation folder is: C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise
3. Type each of the following commands and press ENTER after each:
regsvr32.exe /u SCRIPTCL.dll
regsvr32.exe /u x64\SCRIPTCL.dll (for 64-bit systems only)
regsvr32.exe /u VSUPDATE.dll

2. Locate each of the following registry keys, right-click each key, and select Delete:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\AVEngine]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\DesktopProtection]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\VSCore]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\McAfee\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSCAN8600]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\VIRUSCAN8600]

3. Restart your computer.
STEP 13 - Delete Files/Folders
1. Delete each of the following program folders:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\McAfee

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Network Associates\Engine
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee\DesktopProtection
C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan Enterprise
C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Engine
C:\WINDOWS\Installer\{35C03C04-3F1F-42C2-A989-A757EE691F65}
2. Delete each of the following folders (only if empty):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee

C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee
C:\Program Files\McAfee
3. Locate the appropriate .MSI file(s) by navigating to C:\Windows\Installer\<random name>.msi

4. Right-click each file, select Properties and Summary to view the application to which it belongs.
5. Delete each file for which the summary states VirusScan.
STEP 14 - Reset Microsoft Outlook Add-in Manager (if Microsoft Outlook is installed)
This procedure instructs Microsoft Outlook to rebuild the EXTEND.DAT for the next user to open Outlook, removing references to the VirusScan Email Scan add-in.

2. Locate the following registry location:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions\Outlook Setup Extension]
3. Right-click the Extensions key and select New, String Value.

4. Rename the new value to Outlook Setup Extension and press ENTER.
5. Right-click Outlook Setup Extension and select Modify.
6. In the Value Data field type:
4.0;Outxxx.dll;7;00000000000000;0000000;OutXXX
STEP 15 - Remove hidden drivers
1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System.

2. Click Hardware, Device Manager.
3. Click View and select Show hidden Devices.
4. Under Non-Plug and Play Drivers, locate McAfee Inc. and double-click the first entry and select Driver.
5. If the service name equals mfetdik, click OK and press Del.
You are prompted to uninstall this device from your system.
6. Click OK.
You are prompted to restart your computer.
7. Click Yes.
After your computer restarts, the TDI driver will be removed.
Workaround
Speeding up removal of registry and directory information
IMPORTANT:
The instructions below are solely intended to help streamline the manual removal process outlined above.
Using .reg and .bat files as suggested below can save time but has the inherent risk of script errors and possible errors in executions being missed.
To speed up removal of registry information, create a .REG file.
To remove keys and their underlying values, use Notepad or similar to create a .REG file with the relevant keys.

To import a .REG file:
From Windows Explorer:

Double-click the file and click Yes.
From the command line:

Type regedit /s <filename>.reg /s and press ENTER.
This silently imports the data.
Example
regedit VSE85rem.reg /s
To speed up removal of files and directories, create a batch (.BAT) file
1. Launch Notepad.
2. Type all the commands you would normally use to delete files and directories from the command prompt.
3. When done, click File, Save As..., type DEL-DIR.BAT, and click Save.
To use a .BAT file:
From the command line, type DEL-DIR.BAT and press ENTER.
From Windows Explorer, double-click DEL-DIR.BAT.

Order in which to try removal:

1. Standard Add/Remove programs option in Windows. (Preferred method)

1. Click Start, Run.

Example: C:\Program Files\McAfee\Common Framework\frminst.exe /remove=updater /product=Viruscan8600

STEP 2 - Unregister with Checkpoint

1. Click Start, Run.

STEP 3 - Remove the Anti-Spyware Module (if installed)

1. Click Start, Run.

STEP 4 - Remove Lotus Scanner

1. Click Start, Run.

STEP 5 - Delete Registry Keys - Part 1

1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and press ENTER.

STEP 6 - Unload vsplugin.dll (if ePolicy Orchestrator Agent is installed)

1. Locate the following registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Network Associates\ePolicy Orchestrator\Application Plugins\ViruScan8600]

2. Right-click the key ViruScan8600.

STEP 7 - Stop VirusScan Services

1. Click Start, Programs, McAfee, VirusScan Console.

STEP 8 - Delete Registry Keys - Part 2

1. Search the Windows Registry for and delete instances of 40C30C53F1F32C249A987A75EE96F156:

STEP 9 - Delete VirusScan Services

1. Locate the following registry key:

2. Right-click the key and select New, DWORD Value.

STEP 10 - Uninstall VirusScan Drivers

1. Select Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.

Example: cd \program files\mcafee\virusscan enterprise

3. Type the following command, then press ENTER:

mfehidin.exe -u mfeavfk.sys mfeapfk.sys mfebopk.sys mfehidk.sys mfetdik.sys

STEP 11 - Unregister DLLs

1. Select Start, Run, type cmd, and press ENTER.

STEP 12 - Delete Registry Keys - Part 3

1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and press ENTER.

3. Restart your computer.

STEP 13 - Delete Files/Folders

1. Delete each of the following program folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\McAfee

2. Delete each of the following folders (only if empty):

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\McAfee

3. Locate the appropriate .MSI file(s) by navigating to C:\Windows\Installer\<random name>.msi

1. Click Start, Run, type regedit, and press ENTER.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions\Outlook Setup Extension]

3. Right-click the Extensions key and select New, String Value.

STEP 15 - Remove hidden drivers

1. Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, System.

Speeding up removal of registry and directory information

To speed up removal of registry information, create a .REG file.

To import a .REG file:

From Windows Explorer:

From the command line:

To speed up removal of files and directories, create a batch (.BAT) file

To use a .BAT file:

From the command line, type DEL-DIR.BAT and press ENTER.

From Windows Explorer, double-click DEL-DIR.BAT.
