LOCATION: PRE-TRANSFER/TRANSFER/SEPARATION CORONA ASSY

SUBJECT: PREVENTING BLANK IMAGE
Outline
To prevent blank images in a high humidity environment, the material comprising the transfer/separation
block and pre-transfer corona block has been changed.
Details
[Phenomena]
Blank images due to poor transfer
[Cause]
When the machine is used in a highly humid environment for a long time, the transfer/separation block and
pre-transfer corona assembly block absorb moisture, likely causing a decrease in insulation resistance. As a
result, electric leakage that results in blank images may occur.
[Factory measure]
The material comprising the transfer/separation corona block (front and rear) and pre-transfer corona
assembly block have been changed to a material which does not easily absorb moisture. With this change,
the color of the block has been changed from black to milky white.

[Note]
The block is not assigned as a service
part; instead, the block is a part integral
to the shield plate (FF2-0125-090).
They are stuck together by adhesives and

Measures for servicing
When the aforementioned phenomenon occurs in the field, replace the separation block (front and rear) of
the transfer/separation corona assembly and the shield plate of the pre-transfer corona assembly with the new
ones, or replace the transfer/separation corona assembly and pre-transfer corona assembly with the new
ones.

LOCATION: PAPER PICK-UP ASSEMBLY 3

SUBJECT: JAMS IN LOWER FEEDER AREA

OUTLINE

When double-sided copies are made, the paper may jam in the lower feeder. This is caused by two
sheets of paper glued together by electrostatic charge (generated by the feeder assembly).

CAUSE

The screw G25 pos.C of the feeder assembly was eliminated (see figure 1). This screw was used to
secure the guide plate FB1-5848 to the feeder duct FB1-5851. Both items are, however, constructed in
such a way that they also fit together without this screw.
Because of the up and down movement of the feeder assembly FG5-1203, the feeder duct may slip
out of position and the boss near screw G25 pos.C may become positioned beside the positioning
hole in the guide plate.
The resulting mechanical stress may lead to skew of the belt FA5-2622, which then rubs on the duct
causing the electrostatic charge.

FACTORY MEASURE

Since November 1995 the screw G25 pos.C has been implemented again.

MEASURES FOR SERVICING

When the above-mentioned problem occurs, add screw G25 pos.C to the feeder.

SUBJECT: SAFETY OF MOTOR CONTROLLER

Attention
We would like to inform you that it is absolutely necessary to conduct the measures described in this
Service Bulletin. Please inform your technicians that even greater damage might be caused if the
Service Bulletin is not heeded.

Outline
Liquid spill may occur from the electrolytic capacitor used on the Mitsubishi motor controller, likely
causing smoke and this is to inform you on the field measure. The Matsushita motor controller do not
require this preventive measure.
Details
[Phenomena]
Smoke from the motor controller
[Cause]
The airtightness of the electrolytic capacitor (C38, C39) on the motor controller becomes less perfect over
time, eventually allowing electrolyte solution to leak. Leaked electrolyte solution corrodes the pattern on the
board, causes a short circuit between the patterns and this condition results in smoke.
[Factory measure]
The Mitsubishi motor controller capacitor (C38, C39) has been replaced with a different part that does not
cause this phenomenon.

4080-026 Rev. 2
Method for verifying the part
During servicing, use the following method to check whether the motor controller is one of those that
requires the preventive measure before attaching the countermeasure part (FY3-0275) or replacing the part
with the Matsushita motor controller. (The method of attachment is shown on the next page.)
1) Method for verifying the part
1. Check the affected machine numbers
For the affected machine numbers, there is some leeway in the machine serial numbers around the
time when the corrective motor controller was incorporated in production. Therefore, some machines
previous to the affected machine numbers contain good Mitsubishi motor controllers.
2. Check the manufacturer of the motor controller
The Matsushita controller has DZ642C printed in white in the lower left corner of the board; motor
controllers without these characters are Mitsubishi products and need to be checked. (See Fig. 1.)
3. Check the lot number of the Mitsubishi motor controller. (See Fig. 3 for the position of the lot number.)
Lot numbers 4101 and earlier are subject to this change. How to read the lot number is shown
below.
4101

have this marking)

2) Attaching the countermeasure part for the field
1. Remove the motor controller from the copier main unit. (See Fig. 2 for the position.)
2. Remove electrolytic capacitor C38 and C39 from the motor controller. (See Fig. 3 for the position.)
3. Clean the area from where the electrolytic capacitor has been removed with alcohol (to remove
electrolytic residues).
4. Connect the countermeasure part (FY3-0275) between J811 of the motor controller and the connector of
the power supply input cable attached to J811. (See Fig. 4.)
5. Use the cable band to bundle the countermeasure cable to the cable of the DF connector section,
exercising caution to avoid the countermeasure cable from contacting the motor controller and gear.

Subject : USING A 4-MM THICK COPYBOARD GLASS

Reason : The current 3-mm thick copyboard glass will be replaced with a 4mm copyboard glass to prevent
cracking of the glass.

Details : <Phenomenon>
When a thick original (e.g., book) is placed on the copyboard glass and copied with the RDF over it,
the copyboard glass can at times develop cracks.
<Cause>
When the RDF is brought down, its supports are designed to rise to distribute the force imposed on the
copyboard glass. An excess of force applied on the RDF, however, can cancel this design
consideration, causing cracks.
<Factory measure>
1. The current 3-mm copyboard is replaced with a 4-mm thick copyboard. To accommodate the
change, its associated parts (e.g., right glass retainer) will be raised by 1 mm.
2. A bearing will be added to the RDF mount.
3. A paper guide spacer and a left glass retainer for an RDF will be shipped in the same box as the
unit. (The parts are to be used when installing the RDF.)
4. The focal distance of the lens is changed.

Servicing : If a crack has developed in the field in the copyboard glass (3 mm thick), replace the glass with a 4-mm
thick copyboard glass using the countermeasure kit which consists of the following ten parts. (Note
that a depending on the machine models, different copyboard glass is used.)
