INTRODUCTION

Computer Aided Design (CAD) is a critical tool engineers use to transform their napkin
sketch ideas into actual three dimensional models. Inventor is a powerful software package that
allows engineers to design parts, create assemblies, animate assemblies and create real life
renderings of their models. CAD is one of the main ways an engineer can communicate their
ideas to other parts of a company like Sales, Marketing and Technical Support. Some say a
picture is worth a thousand words; well, a 3D animated model is worth a million.

Digital Prototyping with Inventor enables robotics teams to test a robot design before its built,
identify potential design flaws and make corrections early in the design process, greatly reducing
time spent on the physical build. Inventor can help students design a winning robot, by guiding
them through assembly creation and ensuring that all parts and components fit correctly.
Autodesk Inventor uses adaptive technology to speed and simplify the mechanical design
process. As a dedicated 3D mechanical computer aided design package, it is ideally suited for
conceptual design.
OBJECTIVES
1. Students will be able to create 3D models using Autodesk Inventor.
2. Students will be able animate 3D models.
3. Students will be able to render 3D models.
4. Students be able to covers sketching, part modeling, assemblies and design
documentation.
5. Students learn more on how to use inventor in their final year project.
About The Project

We choose this project because this is the base for our final year project which is the
buckling test rig under internal pressure that using pump to supply the pressure. Basically,
buckling can occur in some shells when they are subjected to internal pressure. Some shells
contract in certain regions when internal pressure is applied and this inward movement causes
compressive stress that may lead to buckling phenomenon under internal pressure were first
observer and studied in late fifties and sixty. Buckling failure in pipelines in operation are under
internal pressure. A design study was conducted to investigate the effect shell buckling
knockdown factor, internal pressure through different tin diameter.

On this project, we use the basic skills to draw the base such as extrusion, hole, thread,
revolve and fillet. First we draw all the components differently which is base of the table, table
frame, table leg, screw, nipple and fitting, flange, clamp and pole that hold the clamp. So,
basically the function of this component is the base for our project. The basic component before
we assemble this project together is :

Nipple and fitting a set of joint from the flange to the hose
Flange Made up from aluminium as the base for the upside down tin that connected it
to the hose of the pump.
Screw, bolt and nut that joint the table together with the tin and clamp.
Clamp- made up from hollow steel and have plastic handle to clamp the tin from above
Table the table stand made up from hollow metal, frame from aluminium and base from
wood

CONCLUSION

As a conclusion, there are many things that we learn about the process in the making of
the base of this project. Although our project look simple, but this is the base for our final year
project to build our buckling test rig under internal pressure. Also, we learn a lot on how to use
inventor especially in sketching in 2D and 3D object, extrude and assemble the object. We hope
our knowledge about inventor can help us find a job someday and we can learn more in the
future to draw another project that using inventor.
