Fiji Hub Achievement Report

December 2016
Objective: Community Enrichment
Celebration Time in Silana

Objective:

Aid physical and creative development through interactive activities and events over the two-week
holiday programme.

Summary:

During the final weeks before we temporarily shut down our GVI projects in Fiji for the Christmas
break, it was first time to celebrate and reflect on our year and thank the community and schools for
their partnerships. The remaining staff and volunteers in country created a two-week program for
the Children and Community members of Silana.

Report:

GVI Fiji and the members of Dawasamu have worked together more closely than even in 2016.

This fun and interactive two-week program was to not only

thank but celebrate the year that was. Volunteers organised a
series of activities for both students and community member
that were a huge success all around. Hosting multiple
community and kids club events, movie nights and of course
kava nights for the community.

The scavenger hunt had excitement levels rising as riddles

were solved at great speed to find the next clue in the fastest time. Over 70 children participated in
the chaos and laughter.

The final week before closing, the volunteers organized a Kids Carnival with different games and
prizes held over the afternoon. Over 80 children participated and had a great afternoon. The
Carnival was followed by a community vidividi tournament and Quiz night, where the youth and
adults in the village competed for the chance to win a newly handmade vidividi board.

Over 18 teams signed up the tournament with an audience of

over 100. The village hopes to make the tournament a regular
event with neighboring communities and act as a potential
fundraiser for local initiatives.
