Final Reflection Questions:

in complete sentences
The following should also be expounded upon

1. While writing your paper, what did you learn about the research process?-while
conducting my research paper, I learned that a lot more goes into Cosmetology as a
whole. Taking the information in I acknowledged that you need a lot of people
skills, having to know what to do in certain situations, making sure the client is always
right and getting what they want. Also it is not easy finding things for this topic, all
thought it can be very broad with the jobs under Cosmetology it does not have a lot of
information.
2. How was the research related to your mentor hours?-The information that I enquired
while researching gave me more of perspective on how to do things while doing my
hours. Then when I got into the mentors hours it gave me a real life showing of all the
things that I learned.
3. Summarize the mentor hours that you completed.-During the Mentor hours, I had learned
to do highlight, lowlight, root-touch up and how to layer the colors correctly. The first day
with my mentor I really learned more of the basics than I did anything else. These are
important skills to have. Chelsea had showed me what to do when you want to change the
hair's color. For example we had changed a girl's hair from bright red to a brown with
carmel highlights. For this you had to chemically color correct the hair, so we used
products that can take the color out and applied the new color completely. The second
day I got to experience a nape undercut(which is just a shaved look) this was pretty cool
because I had got to see how it was really done. I also got taught oil slick, which is such a
easy thing to do. It is just colors that are applied underneath really dark hair and when
you look at the client in the sunlight it appears to be all part of the head.
4. How did working with your mentor affect your understanding of the topic area and /or
the professional world?- I got to see things that I heard about actually be performed and it
made more sense of how the process happens
a. If you mentor was not directly related to your topic, what did you learn
about the profession that can be translated to any future professional
setting?-N/A
b. If your mentor contributed to the development of the product, how were they
involved?-N/A

5. How did creating a product and completing the hours challenge you personally?-Creating
the product itself was a very hard thing. It had challenged me a lot of ways of trying to
figure out a simple up-do but also have it look different from the typical up-dos that
everyone gets. Also having to make the video a certain time limit on making sure it was
at the right spots so they get each thing correctly to know what to do. Completing the
hours as a whole was not as challenging as I thought it was going to be.

6. Do you feel prepared academically and emotionally for the presentation?-Academically I

do feel prepared for this presentation but emotionally I do not whatsoever.
a. If not, why? What challenges do you still face to feel prepared?-My biggest fear is
going into it and just freezing and forgetting what my topic is. I don't want to get
there and sound dumb because I do not know what i'm talking about. The issues I
need to address is being in a room with three people talking through everything as
whole.

7. How did the entire process stretch you as a learner and as an individual-The project
overall really did expand my knowledge on every single topic of cosmetology. I got to
learn how to do things that I have never done. For example I had specifically focused on
hair rather than all of them. Before this project I had known things about hair but not
everything. So it showed me how to do techniques like a highlight and a lowlight, how to
bleach the hair without damaging it, what to add and what not to add. Everything overall
has really expanded my learning on this topic.
8. Other than time management, describe an obstacle you encountered and how you
overcame it.-In all honesty I did not really experience some real obstacles. I think this is
because I really do enjoy doing hair and the motivation I have for it really just pushes me
to do better rather than struggling on it.

9. What life skills did you acquire and how will they help you in the future?-The life
skills that I have acquired are probably the people skills. While with my mentor I got to
see how you have to really engage with your client in order for them to trust you and
give you feedback when you need it. You do not want your client to fluff things and have
them settle with hair that they really do not like. That is probably the biggest thing I can
take out of this experience.
10. If you had to go back and do parts of the project again, what would you do differently?-I
do not think I would go back and fix things in the project. I really did like more things
than other stuff but it had made me a better student knowing these things.

11. Based on the entire Pride Project experience, do you plan to pursue this field as a career
or college area of study? If so, why? If not, why? Please be specific. Please format these
questions as follows: In the future I do plan to pursue this career, I think this is going to
be a very good job for me. I like how you can be a very creative person when doing hair,
but that also comes with some restrictions. Like if a client wants a certain thing you
would have to do that but if they give you free range you can be as spontaneous as you
want. I also like how this job is not so much following the rules, now and days I kinda
feel like every job is set on rules and they have to do certain things that their bosses want
but with cosmetology you can set your own personal hours and make your own wages
that you want. I like how free it is and not so much of a sitting in front of a computer job.
The one thing I like the most about cosmetology is mixing and creating colors, when I
was doing the root touchup I liked how you can alter certain colors to make it match the
hair and it be perfect when it is done. Also me being the way I am, I like to do things my
way not necessarily the way other people want to do things so this job kinda allows that.
