Past Progressive:
Affirmative: SUBJECT + TO BE (simple past) + VERB -ING
Negative: SUBJECT + TO BE (simple past) + NOT + VERB -ING
Questions: TO BE (simple past) + SUBJECT + VERB -ING
Use: talk about something that WAS IN PROGRESS at a particular
moment in the past.

REMEMBER:

VERB TO BE SIMPLE PAST:

AM and IS = WAS (+ NOT = WASNT)
ARE = WERE (+ NOT = WERENT)

VERB -ING FORM:

VERBS ENDING IN -E: drop the -E and add -ing (have = having)
VERBS ENDING IN CONSONANT: double the consonant and add -ing
(hit = hitting)
VERBS ENDING IN -Y: just add -ing (play = playing)
