THE CORRELATION BETWEEN COMPLIANCE TO THERAPY AND
MOBILITY IMPROVEMENT OF POST STROKE PATIENTS AT SLEMAN
GENERAL HOSPITAL, YOGYAKARTA, IN 2016
ABSTRACT
Background: Stroke is a syndrome which causes the loss of central neural systems
functions supposedly caused by a vascular emboli or a thrombosis which causes
hemiparesis. Stroke involves its patients into a therapy which requires a long time process
and which demands strict compliance to the therapy. Compliance to the therapy can
reduce the risk of a severe incident of stroke, therefore, it is an essential part of the
process of stroke treatment.
Objective: To determine the correlation between compliance to therapy and mobility
improvement of post stroke patients at Sleman General Hospital, Yogyakarta.
Research Method: This research was conducted at Sleman General Hospital,
Yogyakarta. The research used a cross sectional design, the samples involved 58 stroke
patients who visited the Neurological Poly Clinic. The samples were chosen using
consecutive sampling technique. The data for this research were collected by distributing
questionnaires which contain 20 statement items from the Likert Scale. The data collected
were analyzed using Somer's statistics test with = 0.1.
Results: In terms of compliance to therapy, the majority of samples belong to high
category (51 respondents, or 87.9%). In terms of mobility, the majority of samples need
tools and support (33 respondents, or 56.9%). The results of the bivariate test on
compliance to the therapy and mobility improvement show that p value is 1.000 > 0.1,
with a confidence level of 90%.
Conclusion: There is no correlation between compliance to therapy and mobility
improvement in post stroke patients at Sleman General Hospital, Yogyakarta.
