In a country with limited resources, low oil prices and the rising awareness of

environmental issues in the Middle East. Our refineries should be increasing its
capacity while saving energy and reducing emissions. As Im currently a R&D
engineer in a refinery complex that processes crude oil with the capacity of 3.9
million ton/year, I feel obligated to develop myself and empower my knowledge
with the tools I need to be able to judge our refinerys process systems and
identify possible saving solutions and strategies and be able to judge how
efficient are these solutions. I believe I could help my well-known refinery
complex to flourish and set an example and strategy that Egypts refineries are
in deep need of to meet the market needs with increased capacities while saving
hard currency.
My first choice is MSc in petroleum refining systems engineering in university of
surrey, this choice reflects my primary interest in studying petroleum refining
systems to learn the techniques needed for energy conservation e.g.: process
optimization and decision making, modelling and simulation, process and energy
integration, fundamentals of energy economics,..etc.
As for my second and third choice they would be more generic, I chose MSc in
process systems engineering in university of surrey and university of cranfield. I
chose university of surrey twice for its reputation and the very impressive
courses contents. Also I have been reading some of Dr. Tao chens articles and I
will be honored if I could have such a programme leader. I also chose Cranfield
University due to the facts that the course is more technical and periodically I
would get to meet professionals from the industry so I could exchange thoughts
and experience.
