The data included here are a spliced series of three manufacturing labor flow data sources:
--The BLS Labor Turnover Survey, 1947-1982
--The Census Longitudinal Research Database, 1972-1998
--The BLS Business Employment Dynamics, 1990-2005
All estimates are seasonally adjusted quarterly rates, where the rates are calculated
using the average of the current and previous quarters' employment in the denominator.
The first two series are spliced using methodologies described in Davis & Haltiwanger (1999
That series is then combined with the BED data using a generalized method of moments procedure that
matches key moments of the data. This final series appears in Faberman (2006 BLS WP 391),
