LAPUZ INTERNSHP ESSAY

First and foremost, I would like to share that I only applied for the
Office of the Solicitor General. While most of my batch mates are
applying for the big law firms, I only had OSG in my mind because I
thought it will be a great opportunity to be part of their prestigious
internship program and hopefully able to handle the case of our
territorial dispute against China in the West Philippine Sea. But
although I wasnt able to handle that case, my experience with OSG is
nevertheless so much more than I expected.

During my internship in the Office of the Solicitor General, I was asked

to draft pleadings on a daily basis. I was asked to draft one on my first
day and I had no idea how to go about with it, but good thing, the
lawyers in my division were more than willing to lend a hand. What I
liked most about it is that I was able to handle different kinds of cases.
From criminal, to civil, and even an expropriation case. Above
everything else, it was the pressure that made things more intense
knowing that the papers and pleadings that I write will have grave
impact to peoples lives. It was no longer just my grades which are at
stake; it someone elses mother, father, and actual rights of the people
that the state vowed to uphold. We were also asked to attend court
hearings and even visit the Bilibid Prison. I believe these are the
experiences that helped me as a student to aspire to be better in my
chosen field knowing that I can actually make a difference in peoples
lives. My internship exposed to people of all walks of life and revealed
the true situation of our country that I will never experience within the
four corners of the classroom. It only validated what I already wanted
after graduating and that is to work for the government and help make
a change in my own little way. Although understandably, most od the
newly passed lawyers are now more interested in working for private
firms because of the salary and working place itself, I believe that the
government needs more lawyers now more than ever.
