How to configure three (3) displays on a Dell Latitude Portable with Intel HD 4x00 Graphics

WhenyouuseDisplayPorttechnologywithyourDelllatitudelaptop,youcanrunupto3monitorsusingyourIntelHDgraphicscard.Forexample,youcandisplaygraphicsonyour
laptopscreenand2externalmonitors.Oryoucandisplayon3externalmonitors(onewillreplaceyourlaptopdisplay).

ThreeextendeddisplaysarepossibleontheIntelHDGraphicssystemslistedbelow,providedthatallthehardwarerequirementslistedinthearticlearemet.Thisarticlewaswrittenon
aLatitudeE6430dockedonanEPortPlusportreplicator,using2U2414HconnectedviaDisplayPortcablesand1S2340LdisplayconnectedusingaVGAcableina3extended
displaymode.

Thissamearticlewasedited18monthslateronaLatitudeE5450usingthesamedockanddisplayconfiguration.

Note:DigitalVisualInterface(DVI)connectionsonlyallowIntelHD4000/HD4400graphicstodisplayon2screens.HD4600/HD5500Graphicswillsupport1analog
display(LCDorVGA)and2Digitaldisplays(DVIorDisplayPort)ina3displayconfiguration.

Configuringgraphicson2externalLCDdisplaysand1laptopscreen
1.PlacetheDellEPortPlusAdvancedPortReplicator(APR)whereyouwanttosetupyourmonitorsthenconnectandpluginitspowercable.
2.ConnectoneendofaDisplayPortcabletotheAPRandtheotherendofthecabletoaDisplayPortLCDDisplay.
3. ConnectandplugintheLCDdisplayspowercable,turnontheLCDDisplayandplaceitwhereyouwant.

RepeatSteps2and3foryourotherDisplayPortLCDdisplay.
4.WithyourDellLatitudeportablesystemturnedoff,dockthesystemontheAPR.
5.Turnonthesystem.OnceWindowshasstarted,all3screensshoulddisplaygraphics.
6.Rightclickthedesktop,clickGraphicsPropertiesandadjusttheresolutionandpositionsofyourLCDdisplays.Youcanalsochangethedefaultdisplaytoanyoneofthe
screens.

Note:GototheInteldriverconsolechooseAdvancedmode>Display>MultipleDisplays>ontherightmakesureActiveDisplaysissetto3.Thisshouldkeepallsettings
andcustomerscanuseall3displayswithoutanyissues.

Configuringgraphicson3externalLCDdisplays
1.FollowSteps13ofIssue4above.
2.ConnectoneendoftheVGAcabletotheAPRandtheotherendofthecabletotheanalogVGALCDDisplay.
3.ConnecttheVGALCDdisplayspowercableandplugitin,turnonthemonitorandplaceitwhereyouwantit.
4.ConnectanexternalkeyboardandmousetotheAPRwhereyouhaveconnectedthe3rddisplaywithanaloginputthatisreplacingyourportablesystemdisplay.Withyour
systemclosedandpoweredoff,docksystemtotheAPR.
5.OntheAPR,pressthePowerbutton.
6.OnceWindowshasstarted,all3externalmonitorsshoulddisplaygraphics.
7.Rightclickthedesktop,clickGraphicsPropertiesandadjusttheresolutionandpositionsofyourdisplays.Youcanalsochangethedefaultdisplaytoanyoneofthescreens.
