SOROPTIMIST LIVE YOUR DREAM ART CONTEST

INFORMATION FOR CLUBS


The 7th Annual Soroptimist Live Your Dream art contest is underway! In celebration of our new program,
Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls, this years contest will highlight the world of working women.
Students, ages 4-18, are invited to draw a working woman they know and admirea teacher, doctor,
scientist, business owner, engineer, lawyer, etc.

Spread the Word


This art contest has been quite successful, drawing in thousands of creative works from children all over
the world. Continued success of this contest depends on club participation. Because it involves a visual
medium, children from every country in the federation can participate in this contest. In addition, it
provides a unique opportunity for clubs to engage with schools in their communities, generate publicity at
the local level, and support Live Your Dream.

The goals of the contest are to:


Engage clubs and members in Live Your Dream
Increase awareness of Soroptimist and its mission
Increase awareness of Live Your Dream
Engage schools, children and parents (who may be potential members) in a fun and educational
activity focusing on women
Attract sponsors to underwrite the art contest and Live Your Dream

Clubs can hold their own local contests before sending artwork to headquarters if theyd like. Simply send
just the finalists artwork to headquarters and let SIA know the total number of entries so that it can tally
the total number of submissions worldwide. To help clubs promote this contest, SIA has developed an
online publicity kit with resources to promote the contest to schools and media. Resources include:

Entry form that student must attach to the back of their art work
News release that clubs can send to local media

How It Works
There are four age categories. Category 1: Ages 4-7; Category 2: Ages 8-11; Category 3: Ages 12-15; and
Category 4: Ages 16-18.

Artwork can be created using any medium that will remain flat on the page, i.e., pencil, paint, crayon, or
even computer-generated using computer drawing or design software. However, all artwork must be
original. The use of clip art is not permitted.

Students must staple or glue a completed entry form to the back of their artwork. This form has space for
students to provide their name and contact information as well as a short (50-word or less) description.
Schools , clubs or parents can collect all entries and send them in one package to Soroptimist International
of the Americas, 1709 Spruce Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103, USA, Attn: LYD Art Contest. Soroptimist must
receive all entries by December 31.

Pictures of the finalists in each category will be posted on the Live Your Dream Facebook page throughout
the month of February (one category per week). The artwork with the most likes in each category will be
the winner. In addition to the Facebook page, winning artwork will also be featured at LiveYourDream.org.
Winners will each receive a gift certificate to the Live Your Dream store.

Dear School,

Soroptimist International of the Americas would like to invite your students to participate in a
special art contest that celebrates women and their accomplishments.

This years contest seeks to highlight girls career potential and asks students to draw or paint a
picture of a working woman they know and admire. Students whose work is chosen as a finalist
will have the chance for their art to be viewed by thousands of people on the Soroptimist Live
Your Dream Facebook page, where people can vote on their favorite artwork by liking the
pictures.

Soroptimist, an international womens organization that works to improve the lives of women and
girls, launched the Live Your Dream campaign as a way to celebrate the power and
accomplishments of women, and to inspire women from all walks of life to live their dreams. This
year, the art contest pays tribute to the launch of Soroptimists new programDream It, Be It:
Career Support for Girls. The global program aims to help girls to reach their full potential and
live their dreams, by providing them with access to professional role models, education and other
resources they need to achieve their career goals.

Participating in this contest will provide a unique and educational way to get your students
thinking about the many contributions of women in the workplace and presents an opportunity to
open communication about career paths and goals.

Enclosed are instructions for participating in the contest. All contest information is also available
at LiveYourDream.org.

INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS

The 7th Annual Soroptimist Live Your Dream art contest pays tribute to the launch of Soroptimists new
programDream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls. The global program aims to help girls to reach their full
potential and live their dreams, by providing them with access to professional role models, education and
other resources they need to achieve their career goals. In honor of this exciting new initiative, we invite
students, ages 4-18, to draw or paint a picture of a working woman they know and admire.

Artwork will be judged in the following categories:


Category 1: Ages 4-7
Category 2: Ages 8-11
Category 3: Ages 12-15
Category 4: Ages 16-18

Rules
Students must draw or paint a picture of a working woman they know and admire.
The drawings can be created in any medium that remains flat on the page, i.e., pencil, paint,
crayon, or even computer-generated using computer drawing or design software. All artwork must
be original. The use of clip art is not permitted.
Work should be no larger than 11 by 14.
Students and their parent/guardian must complete the entry form and glue or staple it to the back
of their artwork. Artwork that does not have an attached entry form will be disqualified.

Schools or teachers must collect all artwork from students and send in one package to Soroptimist

Electronic copies of work will not be accepted.
*Submissions become the property of Soroptimist and will not be returned. Soroptimist
reserves the right to use submissions on its website and in its promotional materials.

Deadline
Entries must be received at Soroptimist no later than December 31.

Judging
Initially, a Live Your Dream team will narrow the entries down in each category. Then pictures of the
finalists in each category will be posted on the Live Your Dream Facebook page throughout the month of
February (one category per week). The artwork with the most likes in each category will signify the
winner. There will be one student winner in each category.

Prizes
The winner in each category will receive a gift certificate to the Live Your Dream store. In addition to the
Facebook page, the winning artwork will also be featured at LiveYourDream.org.

Womens organization highlights the many contributions of women in the workplace by


inviting students to draw a picture of a working woman they admire

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.Soroptimist, an international womens organization that works to improve the lives
of women and girls in local communities and throughout the world, invites students, ages 4-18, to

Around the globe, women have made many, many contributions to the working world, said Soroptimist
President Poco Davis. This years Live Your Dream art contest provides a creative way for both boys and
girls to honor these women, while at the same time opening up communication about different career
paths.
