Global Center of Academics, Research and Industry
Japan has long been a leading force for research and development in many industries from
engineering and pharmaceuticals to robotics. It also has a strong academic community
headlined by 16 Nobel Prize winners in areas as diverse as physics, chemistry and
medicine. Japan also has one of the largest national memberships within many interna-
tional associations, and a strong tradition of hosting international association meetings.
With several industry clusters throughout the country, MICE planners can also easily
organize technical visits and networking sessions with the local professional community.

A Proven Track Record in Meetings and Events

Japan is very experienced in hosting international association conferences and meetings
Most recently in October 2012, one of the worlds largest meetings the Annual Meeting
of the IMF and World Bank Group came to Tokyo, bringing with it more than 10,000
delegates. The meeting destination had to be rescheduled a short 16 months in advance,
and the Japan team coordinated the move to Japan with passion and professionalism,
ensuring a smooth transfer and a very successful meeting. MICE planners can expect the
close coordination between Japans network of local convention bureaus, professional
congress organizers and DMCs to achieve this level of professionalism at all events.

World-class Hospitality and Service

Japan is well known for its graceful hospitality. This tradition of hospitality is rooted in a
culture of courtesy and consideration for others, especially visitors. This innate sense of
hospitality remains a key part of Japanese culture today, and an important facet of Japans
meetings and events industry. Conference organizers and delegates invariably noted in
their post-event feedback the high quality of service they receive during their time in Japan.
In fact, satisfaction surveys of visitors to Japan show that 91% of respondents are either
very satisfied or satisfied with their trip, and a impressive 93% want to visit again*.

Six Reasons for choosing Japan Fusion of Tradition and Innovation

For many years, Japanese artists, architects, fashion designers and other creative people
have collectively crafted a compelling image of a modern Cool Japan, which continues to
fascinate visitors. Their creativity and artistic sensibility are rooted in Japans ancient
culture, where craftsmanship and aesthetics were a guiding principle. Today, this sense of
creativity and pride in ones work can also be found in Japans MICE industry, giving
international organizers truly reliable local partners.

A Varied Landscape for Endless Possibilities

Japan stretches a considerable distance from north to south, all the way from a subfrigid zone in
the north of Hokkaido to the subtropical zone in southern Okinawa. This means there is tremen-
dous diversity in the destinations from snowy mountainside ski resorts and coral reef-ringed
islands to dazzling metropolitan areas and charming rural villages. Throughout the country, there
are dozens of government-appointed International Convention Cities which offer a wide range of
meeting facilities and hotels that are suitable for international MICE. Many of these venues are
uniquely Japanese and would certainly be a cultural experience as well for international visitors.

Easy Accessibility from Anywhere in the World

For an event with participants coming from all over the globe, Japan is an excellent choice
because all major global airlines fly direct to Japan. Japans international airports are
among Asias most important gateways for flights from North America and Europe. Once in
the country, MICE visitors can travel easily on Japans world-class domestic rail and air
networks to any destination for business or leisure.
