Part I Planning

Rational for the activity (sentence form): The dramatic area is set up with the
Halloween theme and fall. The teacher has been implementing activities about both
topic and children enjoy it. During this activity, children will develop the following skills:

Cognitive: 4.15 Recognizing numbers in print.


4.13Counting to determine quantity
Social: 1.4 Helping skills

Physical: 5.3 picking the leaves and placing them on the tree

Learning Materials needed:


Leaves
Cardboard trees
Squirrel
Numbers
Book: Canada in colours
Description of Set-Up:

The trees, the leaves, the book and the squirrel will be placed on the table to
provocate the children.

Listen to others
Wait for your turn
Choose one tree

Health or Safety Considerations:


Make sure the size of the materials are age appropriate.
Make sure there are no sharp ends.

Part II Implementation

Invitation (aimed at getting childrens attention and interest):


The practitioner will invite the children to the table to water the trees would you
like to come with me and water my trees? once the children say yes, walk with them to
the table.

Teaching Steps (detailed and clear):


1. Invite children to the table.
2. Invoke them questions, what do you think happened to the leaves? Do you
know why leaves fall from the trees? what colours are the leaves? when do
leaves change colour?
3. Read the story about falling leaves Canada in colours lets read this book and
find out what happened with the leaves
4. Once the story is over, discuss with the children the story and ask them
questions relate to it.
5. After, invite the children to choose a tree and put the leaves back. According to
the number on the tree, the children will place the number of leaves. For
example, if there is number 5 on the tree, the child will have to pick 5 leaves from
the table and place it in the tree.
6. Offer help if they are having difficulties to place the number of leaves.
7. Count together the number of leaves in each tree. how many leaves does
____(childs name) has? help me to count

Closure:
Now the trees are full of leaves again, thanks for helping me

prefer and use many colourful leaves

This activity foster inclusiveness by gathering different colours of leaves, sizes and
shapes.
