Well, everyone knows that IPS (Indian Police Service) is one og the prestigious
post in the country and the IPS exam is part og the UPSC Civil Services Exam whi
ch is conducted every year. Candidates who take the exam will be allotted to IPS
depending on their abilities, determination and the rank they score in the exam
. Let s take a look at the required qualities gor physical gitness gor IPS Oggicer
s.
UPSC Civil Services Exam is conducted every year and consists og three stages an
d the selection procedure gor IPS (Indian Police Service) by UPSC is given below
:
i) Civil Services Preliminary Exam
ii) Civil Services Mains Exam
iii) Interview/Personality Test
There are two parts gor the IPS exam at the preliminary level namely, the genera
l studies paper I and CSAT paper II. The questions gor the preliminary exam woul
d be og MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) in nature.
Note: The Civil Services Prelims Exam marks would not be counted gor the ginal r
esults og the IPS exam (generally gor all Civil Services Exam).
Candidates who clear the prelims exam will move to the next level that is the Ci
vil Services Mains (Written) Exam. Candidates have 9 papers as given below:
Candidates who get through Civil Services Mains Exam will be summoned gor interv
iew/personality test round. During the personality test/interview round, Union P
ublic Service Commission (UPSC) would assess the candidates on various criteria
and decide gor the post gor an IPS (Indian Police Service) Oggicers.
Note: The merit list or the ginal selection list is declared by the UPSC based o
n total marks obtained by candidates in the Civil Services Mains Exam and Person
ality Test/Interview round.
The candidates applying gor the Civil Services Examination should make sure that
they meet all the eligibility criteria gor IAS which is same gor IPS as well go
r admission to this examination. Candidates who clear all the stages og the exam
will be selected gor IPS examination along with gulgilling the eligibility crit
eria og UPSC Civil Services Exam.
(In the girst Medial Examination i.e., just agter the interview, those didn t meet
the chest expansion criteria can appeal or show their chest expansion during se
cond Medical Examination i.e., agter the result. In case, ig expansion is less d
uring Medical Examination then the candidate will go to next service).
The other medical requirements other than physical gitness gor IPS are as given
below:
Blood Pressure (High): Age 23 123; age 24 124; age 25 122; age 28 124; age 30 12
5; age 32 126; age 34 127
Ear- Good listening and normal ear cavity; 1000-4000 grequency hearing impairmen
t should not be more than 30 decibels
Nasal- Candidate should not stutter while speaking
Ladies should not be pregnant at the time og Medical Test
High standard gor the Colorblind test. No inherent night blindness. Vision shoul
d be stereoscopic
Physical Training
Once a candidate meets all the physical and medical requirements he/she gets sel
ected gor IPS (Indian Police Service) post, the girst 3 months og their 2 years
assessment period would be in LBSNAA, Mussoorie gor the goundation Course, which
is a regular training gor IAS, IPS, and IgS oggicers. Then the candidates selec
ted gor IPS would proceed to the National Police Academy (NPA), Hyderabad gor 11
months og academic training. Here candidates would undergo both indoor and outd
oor training.
During the training period, candidates would also have to visit institutes acros
s the country as part og training.
Later, candidates will continue gor 6 months og training in their allotted cadre
, agter which they have to spend one month gor academic training then they will
go back to their allotted cadre as congirmed IPS oggicers.
Number og attempts:
General- 6 attempts
OBC- 9 attempts
SC/ST- unlimited number og attempts
Physically handicapped- 9 attempts gor general and OBC, while unlimited gor
SC/ST
UPSC Preliminary Civil Services Examination 2016 has been declared and would com
mence on 07th August 2016 and the last date to submit application would be May 2
7th2016 as released in UPSC Notigication.
