How did you develop your concept for the project? What were your design goals,
and how were they achieved? How does your design reflect the culture and diversity
I developed my concept for the project by researching the Art Nouveau style. Then I tried
to put myself in my clients shoes. I thought about what her life was like and what she would
want in her home. My design goal was to create a place where my client could relax, do her
crafts and care for her son. My design reflects my clients diversity because it is a colorful and

wanted to separate the first floor into sections but then I realized that due to the window
placement, I would in fact need to create an open floor plan. When designing the dining room
and placing the dining table, I thought about how the chairs closest to the walls could make a
person feel trapped and uncomfortable, so I made sure to keep the table further out from the wall.
Reflect on what you have learned in this class and discuss at least three concepts or
topics that you feel will be most helpful to you as you continue your studies in interior
design and residential planning. Discuss the tools or exercises in this course that you feel
will help you in marketing your skills as you prepare to apply as a candidate at an entry-
level position.
I think the biggest help in this class was making us get out of our comfort zone by not
letting us chose our clients or design styles. Making me adapt to a new design style has made me
grow in many ways. The assignment when we had to choose furniture to fit the clients design
style made me study the Art Nouveau style and learn what it was and what created it. The
assignment when we had to create a custom piece was also as eye opening. I had to create
something that fit into the Art Nouveau style and not just a standard rectangle shelf. This meant
that I needed to truly understand the style. I think these two assignments shows that I can design
for all types of clients and adapt to new styles. I also think that creating schematic floor plans
and furniture plans are always incredibly helpful. I do not think you can create your best design
without trying multiple ideas. This step shows that, as designers, we are willing to change and
