A. Community Profile
Baliguian is a small town located at the Southwestern east of the Philippines,
Province of Zamboanga del Norte. It has a total land area of 49,000 hectares and
north by the town of Gutalac and on the south bounded by the town of Siocon, on the east
bounded by the town of Ipil, Zamboanga del Sur and the west bounded by Sulu sea.
Baliguian is an agricultural municipality which is rich in natural resources.
Efficient use of this land would produce abundantly in copra, palay, corn and other
agricultural products.
The earliest inhabitants in the municipality of Baliguian were subanon, they
were very industrious people. Some built their houses at the foot of the mountain or hill
for convenience in farming where they grew rice, corn, sweet potatoes and other root
crops. Other lived near the seashore for easy fishing. They were also engaged in home
industries such as basketry and mat weaving. Famous of which was a mat made of rattan
village back then. The inhabitants were very much behind in education. To maintain
peace and order in the community, their chief which was called Tinuwayo promulgate
and execute laws. He had the power to settle all kinds of disputes, punishes criminals and
solemnized marriage. Assisting the Tinuwayo in performing there duties were deputies
assigned around the tribal community these disputes were called Bogslabu.
As years rolled by, to more advanced way of life. the coming of the Christian
faith emerged and transformed the mode of life of the inhabitants, schools, chapels and
Health centers were constructed. The people were afforded the opportunity to acquire
shelter and education. Good health and moral upliftment poured the way to develop from
the northern barangays of the town of Siocon in the province of Zamboanga del Norte,

Baliguian National High School, located in the heart of the municipality. That was in the
early part of 1983 through the joined efforts of the Provincial Schools Divison
Pastor Q. Neri, Late Barangay Captain Alfredo Dacup and the late Barangay Secretary
Pelagia U. Dacup.
Baliguian National High School was established on June 14, 1983 with Mrs.
Felisa R. Selisana acted as the head of the school together with the 3 regular teachers in
the Person of late Fermo I. Asuncion, Edilberto M. Borres Jr and Mrs. Marina B. Taasin.
Classes were first held at the back of the church, with temporary building which was
Barangay Officials, efforts had initiated 7,000 sq.m. lot was donated by the late retired
teacher in the person of Mr. Silvestre Marcial, since then the PTA Officials, Parents,
Teachers and Students help initiating the new school site, which is conducive to learning.
Blessing come, the construction the school building had change radically, in
recent decade in an effort of the school head to put students at care and create an
environment which is conducive to learning. Even the school plaza was also change
through the extended effort of Hon. Angel M. Carloto- Congressman of the Third
.District, Province of Zamboanga del Norte. It was in the school year 1996-97, when 10
classrooms of the school building had stood up in the heart of the school campus.
It was in the year 2004, the school was managed by the newly installed principal
in the person of Mr. Edilberto M. Borres Jr., due to his overwhelming achievement and
accomplishment, the school was a recipient of the 10 unit computer desktop with
complete accessories from the USAID-GEM CLIC and 7 units of computer desktop with
complete accessories from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which led to
technology.
One-forth of the school area/site was not yet constructed with concrete fence.

The school has produced a great number of professionals in the past 33 years of
existence as a secondary school. Since 2008 the number of enrollees did not increased
because there was an extension class in one of the barangay of this Municipality which
was in Milidan. The school has 489 students in the school year 2015-2016, the highest it
These programs include: (1) Deworming-This was given twice a year for Grade 7
students conducted by the medical team of the Siocon District, which started one month
after the opening of classes. (2) Dental Check-up The programs emphasis is to
maintain healthy and cavity-free teeth by giving tips on oral health and correct tooth
brushing (3) Supplementary Feeding- feeding was given to all students who were found
out to have a nutritional status of below normal. In school year 2015-2016, using the new
World Health Organization Child Growth Standards (WHO-CGS), it was found out that
Body Mass Indexes (BMIs) below or above the normal. While the rest or 98.365% have a
normal BMIs.

At the end of the school year, there was a shortage of learning materials in all
grade level and subject areas of 726. The student book ratio is from below the planning
students of 1:1 ratio. Some subject areas has no available learning materials like English
There are 17 computers present in the school, 7 of these need region class. The
school need also other multi-media equipment like projectors to be utilized by the class to
make more meaningful and help the Teacher and most specially the students in their daily
