Election Gun Ban Takes Effect

MANILA, PhilippinesA ban on carrying firearms went into force in the Philippines
Sunday before local elections, amid growing debate about the need for stricter controls following
a series of shooting deaths.
The ban will end on June 13 and is meant to curb violence linked to midterm elections in
May, when the country elects thousands of local officials ranging from governors to senators.
We have set up random checkpoints across the country, to enforce the ban, Commission
on Elections spokesman James Jimenez said on radio station DZMM.
The ban covers the carrying of firearms, the hiring of armed bodyguards by candidates
and the transporting of arms, explosives, raw materials or parts, the elections body said.
Exempted from the ban were members of the police, armed forces and President Benigno
Aquinohimself a gun enthusiast.

The upcoming election is just around the corner. In few months, the country will face
another set of leaders to guide and serve the people. The new image of the government is now on
the hands of the people. Electing rightful persons to fit in the position is a very hard task to do.
Choosing just individuals is a no-east task.
I chose the topic, Election gun ban takes effect written by Agence France-Presse last
January 13, 2013, for it reflects the approaching election. Violence is just around the corner once
again. The use of power to force individuals to vote for the elected official is rampant on various
towns in the country. The government is right on thinking gun ban before and after the election,
but there is no assurance that this will prevent any scenario that may ruin the image of the
election once more. People do not want the election tainted in blood. What people want is a
peaceful and organize determination of individuals who is fitted for the position to lead and
serve. Let the voice of the many be heard and do not let the power of the candidate spoil the
purpose of electing rightful person. It defeats the purpose of why people elects.
May the upcoming election be a peaceful one and not be polluted by violence. May the
purpose of election be heard and be maintained. Election is established for the people to pick and
elect respected individuals who have the capacity to serve the nation and its people.
