GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

Course Code and Title: GEM-804

Course Description: ADVANCED ENGINEERING STATISTICS

This course aims to introduce the advance engineering statistics, probability and reliability
with a greater emphasis of teaching the course throughout the graduate institution of PLM
graduate school of engineering. It concerns different procedures of deriving information from
the data that had been affected by chance of variations. On the basis of scientific experiment,
record of data are generated and make summaries of observations, quantify variations or
other changes of significance, and compare data sequences by means of nos. of
characteristics. The statistics is for descriptive purposes, but on a more sophisticated level of
analysis and interpretation, the test hypothesis is validated by inferential approach. This
approach often includes the estimation by means of observations of a statistical model. The
inferences can be drawn from the process data with significance level and prediction made
and a decision is rendered. When face with uncertainty, the last phase is the principal aim of
the graduate student acting as applied statistician. The latest trends in industry practices,
engineering discipline, environment, culture safety, and health having a major impact on the
development, thus, learning and applying statistical principles on the assigned specific project
paper.

I. Objectives
A. General
1. To update graduate students on the requirements of Advance Engineering
Statistics.
2. To develop graduate students perform a more sophisticated level of
analysis and interpretation, the test hypothesis using inferential approach,
thus, become a world class engineers to practice cross border.
3. To describe the advancement in Advance Engineering Statistics, in
conjunction with technologies and innovations and how it is being utilize
in the industry practice
4. To discuss how the latest trends in industry practices, engineering
discipline, environment, culture safety, and health having a major impact
on the development learning and applying statistical principles
5. To apply the practical approach of Advance Engineering Statistics. When
face with uncertainty, the last phase is the principal aim of the graduate
student acting as applied statistician.

B. Specific
1. To trace the scientific development of statistical principle in its historic
development from the past decades to present
2. To discuss and review different statistical analysis and principle learned
from undergraduate courses such as statistics standard deviation, mean,
quartile deviation, class interval, ranking, central limit theory, regression
and correlation analysis, trends and the application
3. To discuss the advance statistics principles and practices local and abroad
4. To gain advance knowledge in Advance Engineering Statistics to ensure
safety and reliability through reading and research works
5. To discuss Advance Engineering Statistics approaches on selected
different engineering discipline
6. To apply gained knowledge on topic assigned and to present the specific
studies in the graduate class
