SSWH3 The student will examine the political, philosophical, and cultural interaction of
Classical Mediterranean societies from 700 BCE to 400 CE.

demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
3. Knowledge Constructor. Students critically curate a variety of resources using digital tools to
construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for
themselves and others.
a. Students plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources
for their intellectual or creative pursuits.

Description of how to implement in the class: Students are required to research several aspects
of Ancient Greek and Roman society and then display what they have learned in the form of a trading
card (i.e. a baseball collector card or Pokemon game card). There are multiple ways students will use
technology. First, they will have to create a file folder on their student drive. This is a task many of
them are not familiar with. Second, students will have to use the textbook to research the two
civilizations and then decide which topics they wish to focus on (four individuals, two events, and
two things (see instructions file). The textbook is to be used instead of internet sites because we
want to focus the student research vs. allowing random searches across the internet. Once they have
selected their topics, they will then use the internet to find images related to those topics. Using the
Canva website, the students will create a series of cards on the business card template that feature
their chosen topics. The cards will include the selected image and a written description of the topic
(biography, facts, etc.).
This is a student centered activity that allows choice in what topics will be researched and featured in
the trading cards. Students will be creating their own series of cards, not just writing down simple
facts. This will promote learning and improve memory recall because they will be reading the
information in one medium (textbook) and then displaying it another (Canva).

Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): This is a LoTi4 level implementation. It is a student-

centered activity that will yield multiple and unpredictable results because the students can create
cards based on any person, event, and thing they encounter in their research. This is going to be their
own product with their own design, so it will be more meaningful to the students than a series of
notes or worksheet. The lesson could easily be done in pairs, allowing for collaboration.
Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: The first file is the instructions for the students.
The teacher will be walking the students through each step from setting up the file folder to the
creation of the first card. The second file contains the sample the students will see and can use as a
template. It is based off the business card format on Canvas. There are two cards one for Augustus
(person) and one for the Roman Road system (thing). Each card has a picture along with several
facts about the topic. The instructor can also use topics from a different period in history (i.e. the U.S.
Civil War) to avoid having students copy the samples. Students will use the Canva website to create
their own cards.
Other comments about your proposed BBPT Activity: I have also used this activity in a low-
tech environment. The students cut colored paper into smaller rectangles and drew the images on
the front and wrote their information on the back of the cards.
