ABSTRACT
In school, high academic performance has been
attributed to students effective study habits. This is a reason why
teacher try to adopt many technique to help students to learn. In
this paper we argue that the pillar to improvement of secondary
school students study habits is a well outlined and implemented
study habit guidance program me. Experience with students at
school level has shown us that poor study habits can bar bright
students from many important opportunities that would otherwise
enable them to realize their potential. We established that
contributes to their poor performance in tests and examination is
lack of proper study habit. For excellent performance, there is
need for the student to form good study habit.
INTRODUCTION
Study habit are defined as those techniques such as
summarizing, note taking, outlining or locating material which
learners employ to assist themselves in the efficient learning of
the material at hand. The term STUDY HABIT implies a sort of
move or less permanent method of study. According to Gods
dictionary of education Study habit is the tendency of pupil to
study when the opportunities are given the pupils way of
studying whether systematic or un systematic, efficient or
inefficient .
OBJECTIVES
To examine the factors affecting study habit and academic
performance of school students.
To determine the relationship between study habit and
academic performance of school students.
To examine the factors affecting academic performance to
school students.
HYPOTHESIS
There is no significance relationship between study habit
and academic performance of school students.

ANALYSIS
Students who develop good study habit at school increase
the potential to complete their assignments successfully and to
learn the materials they are studying. After analyzing the
responses of 30 samples, it is noted that only 5 student have
above habit (17%), 20 possess normal study habit (66%) and 5
have below average study habit (17%) at classroom.
MAJOR FINDINGS
Result of poor study habit they just have not developed
the skills and behaviors necessary to support comprehension of
college level content. There will be students in your classes with
poor or inadequate study skills, but you as the instructor will be
busy covering a designated body of content. Most likely you will
not have the opportunity to teach students how to develop good
study skills asa part of the class you are teaching, but there are
some thing you can do in your class to assist them in assuming
responsibility for their learning and becoming more effective
leaner. It provides resources that students can use to improve
their general study skill. It also contains information that will help
you to recognize the some of most common study skills problems
and suggests strategies you can use to help students become
better learners.

CONCLUSION
There is a high correlation or relationship between
students habit and students academic performance. There is
significant difference in the study habits of secondary school
students whether male or female. The differences in the study
habit are attributed to the fact that student do not know how to
study and those that manage to study do not adopt effective
study .Lack of proper study habits is one of the root causes of our
educational standard.
SUGGESTION
Middle school is the start of a transitional time for
students as they begin to take on more responsibilities and gain
even more independence. Its very important to form positive
habits now to help with organization and studying. Here is some
suggestion for students in order to be successful during their sixth
grade year.
1. Use your assignment book. Planner. Fill it out daily, after
class, being very specific about what you did and highlight
any homework. Write down upcoming due dates and events.
2. Read choose a good book or magazine and read for at least
30 minutes every day.
3. Label your note books and folders.
