Activation-Synthesis Hypothesis: dreams are just an effort for your brain to make sense of the neural activity that takes place during the time you sleep. - its the opposite of FREUDs idea As we sleep the rest of our brain shuts down, but the pods sending random meanings to the frontal lobes

+Randy Gardner holds the world record- 11 days and 24 minutes - The freshman 15 is common, people think its due to not getting enough sleep - More calories the next day after an all nighter, or poor sleep Slide 12-EFFECTS Microsleeps- are brief, and unintended like blank stare, head-snapping - Like a person trying to drive a car when your tried, and your head-snaps/bobs Hyp-no-go-gic Hallucinations- occur when people are falling asleep or starting to wake up REM- rebound- You dont get enough dream sleep, when you do get the sleep you need youll have more dreams o Deprivation of REM sleep causes an increase in time spent in REM sleep to catch up -Youre catching up on stages 3 (deeper sleep) and stage 4 (deepest sleep) Slide 13- Insomnia -If someone comes up to you and says they think they have insomnia, ask them these three categories.

-Just as I started out with in the beginning with my night terrors, I had no memory of them. (READ SLIDE & Watch video) Night terrors usually occur about 2-3 hours after a child falls to sleep Usually its a smooth transition, but sometimes a child becomes agitated and frightened ---- thus causing a night terror Slide 16- Sleep disorders READ SLIDE -Can lead to high blood pressure and stroke --- mostly in men -5 year old boys had to get their tonsils out, because they kept getting misdiagnosed with ADD/ADHD--- once people found out about this disorder the boys were fine How would you know if you suffered from this?? (YOU WOULDNT)
