Community: Lede Moripa
Lede Moripa, the community organization through which
your child receives the benefits of your sponsorship, is
located in Indonesias East Nusa Tenggara Province.
The Community at a Glance
Three of the assisted villages, Ramadana, Waimangura
and Huwahungo, within the East Nusa Tenggara
Province are located in the countrys lowlands, the land
many residents work as farmers.
Women usually help the family by selling handmade
traditional clothes to local markets. Children help their
families by doing daily chores.
The families typically live in traditional houses that
stand on pilings and the roofs are made from sago
leaves.
Health Services
Local staff members and volunteers help the families
repair their houses, build safe pit latrines, lay pipeline to
bring clean water to community water points and build
water tanks to collect rainwater.
Since the community already has a health post, the
community organization focuses on empowering and
enhancing the knowledge of the health staff. Training
sessions for healthy living and disease prevention help
the staff to better serve the assisted community.
The community organization works to provide supplemental
feedings for malnourished children. Children also receive
vitamin therapy and de-worming treatments. In addition,
families receive training about the importance of nutritional
food for their own familys health. Community volunteers
also conduct cooking demonstrations to provide healthy and
nutritious food for the families.
Lastly, the community organization provides seeds and
fertilizer to ensure that farmers can successfully grow
enough food to feed their families year round.
Education Services
The community organization has developed a community
based Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD)
program. This program allows children age five and
younger to receive an adequate education start.
In Ramadana, the community organization built a primary
school. This new primary school helps children from
remote areas to benefit from regular schooling.
Scholarships are also provided to support the senior high
school and university students.
Family Livelihood Services
To prepare the assisted families to be more independent in
the future, the community organization provides the
community with small business grants and facilitates
entrepreneurial classes.
