fighton.TheBritishEmpirehadvastlylargerresourcesthanGermany,andcouldgoon
fighting.Intheend,thewarwouldhavedraggedonfor35moreyearsinEuropebutthe
endwouldprobablybethesame.
ThereasoninmyviewistheabjectfailureoftheAxis(tripartitealliance)toformulateand
followajointstrategy.ThroughoutthewarGermany,ItalyandJapanactedmorelikea
gangofegocentrichooligans,eachpursuingitsowngoalsandgettingoneinthewayof
theother.Theyneveronceworkedtoacommongoal.

Notquite.By1944theSovietswerewellontracktodestroyNaziGermany,althoughUS
materialmadeagreatcontributiontotheirsuccess,especially20,000oddtrucks.Inthe
summerof1944,afewweeksaftertheNormandyinvasion,theSovietslaunchedOperation
BagratianthatdestroyedthreeGermanarmiesandrecapturedmostofBelorussiaandeast
Poland.ThatwasreallytheendforGermany.TherapidAlliedrecaptureofFranceandthe
lowcountrieswasreallyallaboutdenyingthemtotheSoviets.
ThePacificWarisadifferentmatter.WithouttheUS,Australiawouldhavefallenand
therewasnootherforcecapableofshiftingthemoutofSouthEastAsia,eveniftheSoviets
haddefeatedtheminManchuria.
So,withouttheUS,thewholeofEuropewouldhavebeenpartoftheSovietempire,and

theGermanstriedwouldnothavemeasureduptotheGermanstandardsofquality

WhiletheFrencharmyutterlydisintegrated,theBritishheldtogetherandgotout.

Germans,theRussianswerestillfighting.Infact,theGermansstartedtoregardthe
Russiansoldiernotassubhuman,butassuperhuman.
5.TheSovietsranasuccessfulscorchedearthpolicytheydestroyedortookwiththem
alltheirtrainssotheGermanscouldn'tusethemandtheGerman'srailwaysranona
differentGauge,sotheentireRussianrailwaywasuselesstothem.TheSoviets
packedupentirefactoriesandshippedthemEastward,wheretheywereunpacked
