IEGR 410: Discrete Event Simulation

Spring 2012

FINAL EXAM: CLOSED BOOK PART (All Students) TIME TEST RETURND: ------------

Please, read BEFORE you begin answering the questions

Answer 100 points ONLY. Select ANY question of your choice. No partial question answer you
cannot mix parts of question you select a question, all parts of that question are counted toward
your 100 points.

Manage Your Time: Recommended time for this section is 45 minutes. Recommended time for both
parts of the test is 2 hours and 45 minutes. You may continue working on this section, but you will use
your open book section time. You may finish early and save the additional minutes for the open book
section. Underline Important Points

1. In A Successful Simulation Study section the authors refer to an example problem.

Briefly (2 lines) explain what the case is (no points). What were the two primary and secondary
objectives of the simulation study in that example? (5 points each)

What were the two group modifications that were considered in that problem? (5 points each)

2. In Problem Formulation section:

Name and explain 3 steps that you should take. (Brief, at most 2 lines each) (5 points each)

3. In System and Simulation Specification section:

Explain the process of developing a specification. (Brief, at most 4 lines) (10 points)

From the list of the type of questions that should be asked and answered, mention 5 of them both
question and the answers. (5 points)

4. In Model Formulation and Construction section:

A discussion of scenarios is included. What is that? (5 points)

5. In Model Formulation and Construction section:

Explain 3 Major steps that need to be considered. (Brief, at most 2 lines each) (5 points each)

6. In Experimentation and Analysis section:

Mention three examples related to registration process at MSU that are related to three types of
analysis mentioned in this section. (Brief, at most 3 lines each) (5 points each)

2. Explain the overall problem in a fashion we discussed in the class. (At most 6 lines) (10 points)

3. What is the role of Trucks in this system? If they are considered as resources, what happens when
they are seized and released? With such assumption, are they seized and released only once or more, if
more, where? (Brief, at most 4 lines) (5 points)

4. Explain project deliverables? (Brief, at most 8 lines) (20 points)

5. Considering Chapter 13, does Appendix A represent a complete simulation study, if not what
portion(s) of it? (5 points)

6. In Experimentation and Analysis section:

Mention three examples related to registration process at MSU that are related to three types of
analysis mentioned in this section. (Brief, at most 3 lines each) (5 points each)
