PROJECT TITLE: E-COMMERCE

ACTIVITY IN RURAL AREAS IN AND


AROUND VELLORE
BACKGROUND:

The major focus of our research was to find out the future of E-Commerce in Rural India.
Even the small and medium retailers of the country want to indulge in E-Commerce and are
ready to make a fortune out of the market place concept. It may be now that online shopping
has become popular but the concept of e-Commerce was introduced long back in the 20th
century. According to the latest research by leading global research and advisory firm,
Forrester, the Indian e-commerce market is all set to show the fasted growth within the Asia-
Pacific region at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 57 per cent between 2012
and 2016. It is believed that the number of online shoppers has been on the rise, and is
expected to grow to 40 million in the next two years, from the current 25 million. The study
makes in-depth analysis regarding the barriers and factors of E-Commerce in rural areas.

Objective:

The major focus of our research was to find out the future of E-Commerce in Rural India.

1. To study, the barriers that averts E-Commerce in rural areas.


2. To study, the factors that would encourage E-Commerce in rural areas.
3. To study the further development of E-Commerce in rural areas in future.

METHODOLOGY

MEASURING INSTRUMENTS:
In order to collect the data and test the involvement of rural people in E-Commerce an offline
survey was conducted using a convenience sampling method. A questionnaire was framed
accordingly using Likert scale. IBM SPSS is used as a tool for analysing the data to derive
effective conclusions.

Secondary data collection method is also adopted. For secondary data journal articles,
magazines, news articles, textbooks and websites have been referred for in-depth
understanding of E-Commerce in rural India.

As predicted by various global research and advisory firms, the study is expected to show
positive involvement of Rural people in supporting and extending their activities with regard
to E-Commerce. Further the study also will reflect the barriers that are abstaining E-
Commerce at present in rural areas and will also provide necessary measures to overcome the
barriers.
