STI Project 2
The class is divided into 4 groups:
Group 1& Group 2 (Transformation in Society)
These two groups will analyse the transformation Indian society has undergone in the domain of
health and wellness. Both at an individual and institutional level, there has been drastic changes
in the manner in which human health and wellness as a domain has changed and its impact on
the way an individual approaches human care, interpersonal relationships and the reverence one
attached to the powers which played a crucial role in human wellness god and doctors.
Group 1 (Gather information from 10 people each about the following) (Roll No 1-15)
How important is health and wellness to you and why?
What role do God and doctors play in health and wellness?
(Probe: Do you think doctors are like gods angels sent to keep us fit and healthy?
Do you think doctors are the most noble professionals who help human beings? / Do you

Group 2 will present the Doctors (individual) perspective as they will know the feelings and
emotions of the doctors. While group 1 would have gathered the ideas, opinions and expectations
of society in general.
After gathering of data, group 1 & 2 will share their information and then make a submission
using any of the following mediums of presentation.
Objective of the Project: Individual and society are often at different positions and role
technology plays in throwing up options of creating institutions which meet the needs of both the
individual society and the changes in human values like respect, humility and concern for the
other which Individual and society undergo in this process of transformation

Group 3 (Bring out the transformation in the following) (Roll No 46-65)


I. ECONOMIC: PROVIDING FOR THE NECESSITIES OF LIFE AND
OTHER HUMAN WANTS
A. The Three Factors of Production
1. Land: raw materials, natural resources
2. Labor: human effort, mental or physical

B. Distribution and Trade
1. Direct barter: exchanging one good or service for another
2. Indirect barter: using a symbolic token to procure what is
needed

II. SOCIAL: PERTAINING TO CUSTOMS, EDUCATION, AND
GROUPINGS
A. Customs: Ways of doing things.
1. rituals and ceremonies, i.e. rites of passage
2. rites of passage: ceremonies that revolve around
transitional points
a. birth: transition from life in the womb to life in society
b. puberty: transition from childhood to adulthood
c. marriage: transition from single life to family life
d. death: transition out of society
B. Education: learning ways of doing things in order to be an
effective, responsible member of society.
1. direct learning: survival skills, both physical and social,
learned from ones parents, families, and others. (mother
shows you HOW to do something)
2. Indirect learning: formal schooling (someone tells you
ABOUT something)
C. Groupings: things that distinguish individuals from one another
1. Differentiation: Within each group no one is better than
another; neither is any group better than another.
Age, sex, ethnicity/race, national origin, sexual orientation,
marital status, creed, religion.

2. Stratification: groupings that involve a hierarchy (explicit


ranking or chain of command)
a. estate: usually voluntary, e.g. military organization
b. caste: hereditary social order

Instructions for Group 3 & 4


Activity: You have been allotted an institution and an element of society

Identify an institution under the head allotted to you. Eg. Marriage as a social institution;
Commercial business ventures as an Institution under Economy and do the following:

Connect your institution to the element of society allotted to you to bring out one
transformation which has happened in that element.

Connect the transformation to the other elements of society and bring out the impact
which the transformation has made on those elements.

Ensure that the transformation you discuss is supported by facts and data. Feel free to use data
from secondary sources like reports, periodicals, journals, newspaper etc.

Please keep the business perspective in mind when you are looking at the impact of the elements
of society
Objective: To show the impact of social element on a social institution and bring out the
interconnectedness of the five basic elements of society and the impact of one over other.

Duration: Each student has to make a separate submission and the time depends on the mode of
submission chosen by the student.

Mode of Presentation:

Audio- video clip: minimum 10 minutes

Audio clip: minimum 20 minutes

Poster: 36x 48

Model: Freedom to make a choice of the size

Evaluation Parameter: Understanding of the element; details of the interconnectedness between


elements; Analysis and diverse impacts of elements of society on business and of business on
society; clarity in the basic thought or argument; validation through real life examples and how
India specific is the whole presentation and argument.

Date of Assessment: All Submission must be made on or befor3 15th February, 2017.
