I will begin the lesson by relating this new chapter to the
celebrations occurring for Canadas 150th anniversary using a class
Introduction discussion. Why is this event important? Why do we celebrate
(5 minutes) Confederation?

Should we celebrate Confederation?

Picture Walk (15 minutes)

After this intro we will move into the picture walk. I will ask
students to line up and grab a textbook (or I will assign two
or three students to hand out textbooks I will ask about this
first). We will open to Chapter 8 and begin analyzing the
photos. Students will be periodically asked to provide
predictions about photos or to share their related personal
Body experiences.
(28
minutes) Title Page (13 minutes)

(Upon consultation) Before students begin creating their title

page, I will ask them to share with me the rules and
expectations regarding the assignment. This will ensure that
students know what is expected. I will give a few examples of
significant images from the chapter and then let the students
begin their work. I will give them the goal of finishing their
drawings today so that next class can be spent colouring and
writing their defenses.

When class is almost over, I will ask students to pack away

their title pages and supplies. If there is time, I will also ask a
few students to share what they drew.
Closure
(5 minutes) I will then mention the 150th anniversary again and repeat
our critical inquiry question for the unit: Should we
celebrate Confederation? This is the question we will keep
in mind throughout this unit.
Students will finish their title pages during
the next lesson.
