how the giraffe got his long neak

On a hot summer day there was a young Giraffe that lived in a Giraffe village. One day
an older giraffe came to him and said We are out of leaves. Because you are the bravest
young giraffe I know. So can you find us another tree.

So he set off to find another tree. He searched high and low all day and all night and he
still couldnt find one. One night he fell asleep near a river. He woke up looking at a
hungry crocodile. He tried talking but the crocodile kept on snapping his teeth together.

He tried talking him to sleep but it was not working. It was only 6:00 when he fell
asleep. So he crept around him and he kept on walking and then he fined the tree he was
looking for.

So he shouted to all his friends I have find it, I have find it. Because of all the shouting
he woke the crocodile up. He did not know the crocodile was awake so he went over to
the river and the crocodile was snapping. So the hungry crocodile jumped up and bit its
neck. The giraffe thought it was all over but the crocodile held on and stretched his neck
and his neck turned very long .

So that day on giraffes have long necks.

LEGEND OF THE COCONUT TREE

Long ago there was a Chamorro family belonging to the Achote tribe. The family had a
beautiful young daughter who was admired by everyone in the tribe.

One day the girl became very thirsty. She wanted to drink the juice from a special fruit.
Everyone tried to find the fruit she described but to no avail. Soon the girl became very ill
and died.

The father buried the girl on a hill over looking the village. He placed a beautiful headstone
on her grave and the people covered it with many beautiful flowers.

One day the villagers noticed a strange plant growing on the girl's grave. They thought it
was magic and built a shelter to protect it.
Five years after the plant appeared, it had grown 20 feet tall, strange looking fruits
appeared. One of the fruits dropped to the ground and cracked open.

The chief called on the father of the dead girl to eat the strange fruit but he refused. He
called his wife to eat the fruit. She said it was sweet and chewy and called it coconut. It
remains one of the main foods eaten by the Chamorro people.

THE LEGEND OF THE CHRISTMAS

SPIDER
(A folk legend from Germany and the Ukraine)
nce upon a time, long ago, a gentle mother was busily cleaning the house for the most
wonderful day of the year.... The day on which the Christ child came to bless the house. Not
a speck of dust was left. Even the spiders had been banished from their cozy corner in the
ceiling to avoid the housewife's busy cleaning. They finally fled to the farthest corner of the
attic.
T'was the Christmas eve at last! The tree was decorated and waiting for the
children to see it. But the poor spiders were frantic, for they could not see the tree,
nor be present for the Christ child's visit. But the oldest and wisest spider suggested that
perhaps they could peep through the crack in the door to see him. Silently they crept out of
their attic, down the stairs, and across the floor to wait in the crack in the threshold.
Suddenly, the door opened a wee bit and quickly the spiders scurried into the room. They
must see the tree closely, since their eyes weren't accustomed to the brightness of the
room... so the crept all over the tree, up and down, over every branch and twig and saw
every one of the pretty things. At last they satisfied themselves completely of the Christmas
tree beauty.
But alas!! Everywhere they went they had left their webs, and when the little Christ child
came to bless the house he was dismayed. He loved the little spiders, for they were God's
creatures too, but he knew the mother, who had trimmed the tree for the little children,
wouldn't feel the same, so He touched the webs and they all turned to sparkling,
shimmering, silver and gold!

Ever since that time, we have hung tinsel on our christmas trees, and according to the legen

The Legend of Makahiya

A myth submitted to the site by Zinnia Marniel Bendayon

Philippines

Long time ago, there was a couple in Barangay Masagana (Pampanga today) who wanted a
daughter. Their wish was granted and the wife gave birth to a baby girl. They called her Maria.
Maria was very beautiful but very shy that she wouldn't go out from their house.

Weeks later, Spaniards came to their town. The Spaniards were very cruel that they get
everything they wanted. They rob houses and kill everyone who gets in their way and who
refuses to give what they wanted.

The couple was very frightened to lose their daughter so, they hid Maria in the bushes so the
Spaniards couldn't find her.

After the Spaniards left their town, the couple tried to look for Maria but they couldn't find her
even in the bushes where they hid her, instead they found a little plant that is very sensitive that
when you touch it, it would immediately close.

So they thought it was their daughter, Maria. They called the plant "Makahiya" that means
"touch me not," like their daughter who was very shy.

single room, double room, king room, at queen room.

Nakakatuwa dahil marunong silang makasama at dahil
doon,nagiging kaibigan namin sila.
