DRY CLASSIFIER

Dynamic Air separator / Classifier is a simple equipment having two cone /cylinder (inner & outer and an
impeller with vanes built with wear resistant material to generate whirling air circulation action. The fines
from the crushing plant is fed through feed inlet and dropped by gravity on the Auxiliary fan. The Auxiliary
fan is connected to the drive motor through a housing. The Rpm of fan can be throttled through VFD fitted
to the motor to control the amount of fines to be separated. The main fan creates continuous circulating
air into which the distributor disperses the fines.

Material acted upon the distributor plate is subjected to the following forces namely, Centrifugal force,
Ascending air force, Gravity force. Fine particles below 150 microns size are lifted by the ascending air
current and pass between the blades of auxiliary and Main into the outer cone of the separator. The (-)
150 microns transferred into the outer cone are discharged from the unit bottom in to a conveyor and
transferred into a closed tank through a conveyor.

Underneath the separating zone there is return air vanes are located, the main fan moves the air to
separating zone from the return air vanes. The separation of fines can be attained by reduction is
descending air velocity and also by adjusting the direction of return air vanes.

Heaviest particle mainly + 150 microns - 5mm not ascending will fall to the bottom of the inner cone and
on to a chute and stock plied on the ground through a conveyor belt. which is classified Sand conforming
to the standards prescribed in IS 383.

Air velocity , volume of Air and speed of Rotation are important factors to achieve the good separation of
fines from heavier particles .The Moisture content in the input material .As per the available data it can
operate up to 2-3% moisture by wt in the feed material.

The Dry classifiers are custom designed with varying capacity depending on the input fractions
percentage. They are available in three variants up to a capacity of 250 Cu.M/hr.

ADVANTAGES

1. Conserves water As no water is required.

2. As a closed system no Pollution.

3. Ease of operation & economical as low operating cost.

4. Quality - With variable speed can monitor the fines content.

Gravitational Inertial Classifier - how it works

The feed material and primary air enter the top of the unit and travel downward. The air
makes a 120 change in direction. It then exits through the vanes carrying fine particles
with it. The coarse particles that are too heavy to make the turn fall to the bottom of the
unit where they pass through the secondary air before they are discharged through a
valve. Secondary air, entering below the vanes, passes through the curtain of falling
particles. Those particles that are near the cut point in size are diverted by the
secondary air stream into an eddy current within the heart-shaped chamber. Some fines
are captured as they enter the unit while others are drawn from the eddy current. These
particles are carried by the exiting air to a fabric filter for final recovery.
Air Classifier
General information

The air classifier is designed to separate particulate materials in the air flow for obtaining fine powders
of a predetermined fraction.

This air classifier can be used for a wide range of products and obtain different fractions of powders in
the production of building materials, ceramics, abrasives, powder metallurgy, chemical and other
industries.

Dynamic air classifier is used complete with grinding equipment (planetary centrifugal mill production
of Leotec company) in order to obtain more homogeneous dispersion composition products at lower
specific energy consumption.

Design and Operation

All the main parts of the air classifier are secured on a welded frame: operating (separating) wheel 1,
the shaft of which is mounted in a bearing block 2. A motor 3 through a belt drive 4 drives the
operating wheel 1. Dispersed material that should be classified enters the air classifier through the
charging grate 8 with the air flow, classified material discharged through discharging grate 7. Large
particles fall down from the walls of the conical hopper 5 into the discharge nozzle for a coarse
fraction 6, equipped with discharging valve.

The operating principle of the air classifier based on

the separation of powder material into coarse and
fine fractions, relative size of the boundary, under
the influence of two opposing forces: the centrifugal
force and the drag of the particles to the air flow.
