Abstract - A system providing utility data services. This system include transmitting data circuit and receiving circuit.
Receiving circuit measure the power consumed by power customer, determining a difference between the meter data and
the delivered data. If meter data is grater then the delivered data than power theft is detected. The data is collect from
the meter and delivered is electrical current measurement. Then current is beyond the fix amount and meter is still
indicate the power consume is less than power theft is done by costumer.

Keywords - Microcontroller, RF module, Computer, Meter, Relay.

I. INTRODUCTION

During distribution of electricity there are so much non technical losses and it is very difficult for the government to
detect electricity theft and it has become a major problem for developing countries but electricity theft in India has a
significant effect on Indian economy and is considerably high. Few technical losses may occur but these fault and losses
can be minimized using the fast developing technology. However, there are other kinds of losses which are done by
humans. Due to power theft, india is losing billions of rupees because of unpaid bill and illegal power usage. India and
brazil rank high on the list of high power loss. To saved power loss there should be a proper process to avoid these
unlawful activities. Unlawful activities such as Tampering with meters and seals, By-passing the meters, Illegal tapping
on wires etc. Due to these there will be increase in load at the generating station and it affect the power supply which is
delivers to the consumer from the substation. Because of electricity theft the losers are honest consumers, poor people
and those people who dont have connection.

II. OBJECTIVE

Design system which is wireless.

Easy to operate.
Higher efficiency.
Easy to control.
To detect power theft.
Reduce power loss.
Sensing the power theft at exact location.
Transmitting the information over wireless to substation.
To cut the supply when power theft is done.

III. PROPOSED SYSTEM

A distribution system is shown in fig. Two single phase loads L1 and L2 are connected. M1 and M2 are energy meter
that measure power consumed by loads. Energy meter is install at load side. And power theft detection system is also
install at load side and connect with energy meter. This system is detect the power theft and transmit to distribution
station.

The normal practice for power theft is to short the input and output terminals or to place a magnet on the wheel in case of
old meters. So by sensing current flow through the line & amp energy feed back we can prevent it using a circuit breaker.
In normal condition, micro controller reads energy pulses & current signals. If current is drawing & energy pulses are
normal, then no power theft is being done. If current is drawing & energy pulses are not coming, then it indicates that
power theft. So microcontroller trips the o/p using relay.
In the substation, it receives the information in the form of digital codes on decoding it, we can know at which house
power theft occurred.

V. CONCLUSION

This method reduces the heavy power and revenue losses that occur due to power theft by costumer.
By this design it can be concluded that power theft can be effectively reduce by detecting where the power theft occurs
and informing the authorities. Also a relay is integrated to the system which cut out the power supply to the house or
consumer to try to do power theft.
This system will reduce the energy wastage and save a lot for future generation.
