learning about regular verbs.
The teacher will tell students that they are going to watch a
short video to review what verbs are.
The teacher will play the video Verbs by Schoolhouse Rock
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OEN_mGRzis
The teacher will ask students to share what a verb is.
The teacher will ask students if they know what regular verbs
are.
Body of Lesson (10minutes)
The teacher will explain to students that regular verbs are
verbs that follow a pattern.
Before telling the students the pattern, the teacher will go
over what terms past and present mean on the board.
Past-Something that already happened.
Present-Something that is happening now.
The teacher will explain the regular verb pattern to the
students. The pattern is if you take a verb in present tense
and you add an ed or -d to the end of the verb then you will
get the verb in past tense.
The teacher will give students an example of the verb bake.
The teacher will tell students that the word bake is a regular
verb and that she wants to write the verb in past tense. She
will ask students how they would change the word bake to
past tense. (students answer should be baked)
The teacher will have a list of regular verbs in present tense
on the Smartboard and will call on students to change the
verb from present to past and they will get to change the verb
to past tense on the Smartboard (arrive, brush, glue, juggle,
jump, kick)
The teacher will explain to students that they are going to do
an activity on regular verbs later on in the morning
independently.
The teacher will explain to students what their activity will be
and will show them an example.
The teacher will explain to students that they are going to
pick a card out of a bag (the teacher will demonstrate this).
The teacher will tell students each card will have three regular
verbs on it. The teacher will show the class her card and read
the three verbs out loud. (example: play, bike, wash)
The teacher will then hold up a work sheet which the students
will be completing independently. The teacher will already
have the same questions written on the white board so
students will be able to see the questions better.
The teacher will read the first question aloud: What is your
verb?-She will pick one of the verbs from her card and write
it in the space beside the question. (wash)
The teacher will read the second statement aloud: Change
your verb from present to past tense.-The teacher will ask for
the students to help her change the verb wash to past tense.
(washed)
The teacher will read the third statement aloud: Write a
sentence with your verb that is in past tense-The teacher will
write a sentence in the space provided. (Miss Langley washed
her clothes yesterday.)
The teacher will explain to students that they are going to
continue this same process for the other two regular verbs
that are on their card.
Differentiation of Instruction
Accommodations/Modifications for Students
Low performing students and ELL- During independent work
time, I will be walking around the classroom, monitoring and
helping students. There are five lower performing students which I
will go to individually first and may have to re-explain the activity
or point to the example on the whiteboard which they can follow
along with to complete their own activity.
