1. Classify the following systems with respect to linearity and time-invariance

2. Consider a linear time-invariant system with input x(n) and impulse response h(n). Find the output of
the system for each of the following cases:

output of the system y(n). How would you call this system?
5. Consider an amplitude modulator system with input x(n) and output y(n), defined by

y(n) = Ax(n) cos(n)

Find if this system is linear and time-invariant.


6. Find the convolution of the following signals:

a) h(n) = an u(n) x(n) = bn u(n)


b) h(n) = an u(n) x(n) = bn [u(n) u(n N )]

7. Consider two linear time-invariant systems with impulse responses h1 (n), h2 (n). Show that if you connect
the two systems in series or in parallel the overall system is still linear and time-invariant. Find the
impulse response of the system in both cases.
8. Consider two signals x(n), y(n) with finite support {0, . . . , M 1} and {0, . . . , N 1}. Find the maximum
support of their convolution x(n) y(n).
9. Show that the response of a linear time invariant system to a periodic input with period N is a periodic
signal with period N .
