Installation and Configuration Guide

Abstract
This document provides information about installing and configuring HP Insight Remote Support software on the HP Converged
System 300 for Vertica.

Overview

HP Insight Remote Support software and HP


ConvergedSystem 300 for Vertica
HP Insight Remote Support is a key component of HP Proactive Care support from HP. This software
provides continuous, proactive monitoring of the hardware components within HP Converged System 300
for Vertica. Use the procedures provided in this document to install and configure Insight Remote Support
on your host server. For more information on HP Converged System 300 for Vertica, see the HP website
(http://www.hp.com/go/convergedsystem/cs300vertica/).
HP Services requires installation of Insight Remote Support v7.0.9 for the HP ConvergedSystem 300 for
Vertica. If you have any questions regarding Insight Remote Support and your service level for the HP
Converged System 300 for Vertica, contact HP Technology Services. HP recommends installing Insight
Remote Support as quickly as possible.
Prerequisites
Insight Remote Support system requirements include:
Windows Server 2012 for the Insight Remote Support host.
IE 10.x
Firefox 7.x, 8.x
.NET 3.5 or later
The Insight Remote Support host server requires outbound Internet access to deliver event information to
HP Proactive Support.

Setup

Installing Insight Remote Support on the host server


Insight Remote Support v7.0.9 is pre-installed on the host server.In case it has been uninstalled kindly
refer to Appendix Installing HP Insight Remote Support software (page 34 )for steps to install and
configuring host server.

Configuring Insight Remote Support on the host


server
Make sure that you are running Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.x (64-bit)on the Insight Remote Support host
server.
1. Click the Insight Remote Support ICON on your r001mn002 (Windows Management Server).
2. Log on to the Insight Remote Support host server as a user with administrative rights.
3. Select the Insight Remote Support application from the Desktop.

The first time you log in to Insight Remote Support, the system prompts you to complete a configuration
wizard. You can change the settings you make during this setup process using the information provided in
"Adjusting Insight Remote Support settings (on page 12)."

4. Log in to Insight Remote Support using the administrator username and password.

5. Select Hosting Device Setup Wizard from the system prompt.

The Introduction screen appears. Click on next.


6. Select Automatically Download and Install on the Receiving Remote Support Page. Click on
next.

7. Enter the company information for your site. Be sure to keep this information up-to-date because
this information provides support contacts for the company in the event of upgrades or other
support requirements. Click on next.

8. Give the Site Information and Click on next.

9. Give the Proxy details if needed.

10. Click on Test Connection and check if outbound internet connection is available.

IMPORTANT: The Insight Remote Support host server requires outbound Internet
access to deliver event information to HP Proactive Support.

11. Click on Register with HP.

12. Give the HP Passport credentials and Click on Register with Insight Online.

Once registered the screen should look like below.

13. If you receive any or all of your support services from an HP Channel Partner, work with your
Channel Partner to complete this information. HP services for HP Convergedsystem 300 for Vertica
are sold and delivered directly by HP, and are not available for sale or delivery through HP
Channel Partners.
Otherwise, click Next.

14. Click Finish from the Conclusion screen.

Adjusting Insight Remote Support settings
1. Go to the Insight Remote Support home screen.
2. Click the arrow next to Home in the upper left corner of the screen. This expands the list of
navigation options.

Setting Discovery options


1. Log in to the Insight Remote Support host server as a user with administrative rights.
2. Select Administrative Settings and go to Integration Adaptors tab.
3. Under HP SIM Adaptor enable HP SIM Adaptor and give the SIM credentials.
Also enable all the 3 options under Additional settings.
Then click Save Adaptor settings .

IMPORTANT: The Insight Remote Support should be installed after Insight control is
installed on the host server.

4. Once you click on Save Adaptor settings the screen should look like below.

5. Select Discovery from the Insight Remote Support application home page.
6. Select both boxes on the Configuration tab.
7. Set the discovery interval to your preferred timing.

Managing protocol credentials and alerts


Configure the system to show alerts.
1. Select Discovery. from the Insight Remote Support application home page.
2. Click the Credentials tab.

3. Select Simple Network Management Protocol version 1 (SNMPV1) from the Manage Credentials
for Protocol list, and then click New.

4. Select SNMP Community Credential in the list for Type.


5. Enter the Community String as public in the text box provided.
6. Select READ_ONLY from the list for Community Access Mode, and then click Add.

The system returns you to the Credentials tab.

7. Select iLO Remote Insight Board Command Language Protocol (RIBCL) from the Manage
Credentials for Protocol list, and then click New.

8. Enter the admin name and password for ILO, and then click Add.

9. Click the Sources tab.


10. Expand IP Addresses, and then click New. A popup window opens.
11. Select Address Range, and then enter the range of Internal IP addresses used for the appliance.

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the range you enter includes all of the IP
addresses allocated for the appliance. If you do not know this range, see the
CS300 Vertica IP addresses in the Appendix (Application Private Network
(APN) IP Addresses).

12. Click Add.

13. Click the Sources tab to verify the range of IP addresses you entered.

Starting and monitoring the Discovery process


1. Select Discovery from the Insight Remote Support application home page.
2. Select the IP Addresses you want to discover in the Sources tab.
3. Click Start Discovery.

This process takes 15 to 30 minutes to discover all of the components.

4. Select Devices from the list in the top right corner of the screen.

5. Select All Devices from the Device Groups in the left navigation pane, and then click the Device
Summary tab to view the status of all discovered devices.

Adding Custom Delivery ID (CDID)


1. Select Discovery from the Insight Remote Support application home page.
2. For each device repeat steps 3 to 5.
3. Click on the device and go to Device tab
4. Expand Hardware and give the Custom Delivery ID as CONVSYS_VERTICA.

5. Click on Save Changes.

Appendix

The HP CS300 for vertica appliance comes from the factory with IRS pre-installed.

Preparing a host server for Insight Remote Support


Before installing the Insight Remote Support software, verify the Windows Firewall settings on the Insight
Remote Support host server and update the configuration as instructed in the following sections.

Installing SNMP
Before installing Insight Remote Support, verify that both SNMP Service and SNMP Trap exist in Windows
Server Manager Services.
6. Locate Server Manager on the taskbar on Insight Remote Support host.

7. Click Tools to expand the list, and then click Services.

8. Scroll down to SNMP in the list of services:


o If both SNMP Service and SNMP Trap are present and running, you can skip to "Configuring
SNMP."

o If one or both are missing or not started, continue with the next step.

9. Click and open Server Manager again.


10. Click Manage, and then select Add Roles and Features.

11. Select Installation Type as Role-Based or feature-based installation.

12. Select the box next to SNMP Services to select all services, and then click Next.

13. Click Install. The SNMP installation takes about 5 minutes.

14. Click Close when the installation finishes.


15. Continue with "Configuring SNMP."

Configuring SNMP
Use the following procedures to verify and configure Windows Server Manager SNMP Service, and then
SNMP Trap Service on the Insight Remote Support host server.
Verify that the SNMP services exist on the host server.
1. Locate Server Manager on Taskbar and click to start.

2. Click Tools and go to Services.

3. Scroll down the alphabetical listing to SNMP.


4. Verify that both SNMP Service and SNMP Trap are available, started, and that the Startup Type is
Automatic.
o If so, skip to "Modifying Windows firewall settings on the Insight Remote Support host (on page
26)."
o If not, continue.

Start or adjust SNMP Services.
1. Right-click SNMP Services, and then select Properties.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to repeat the SNMP configuration steps for both the SNMP Services and
SNMP Trap Services on the Insight RS host server, including modification to the Windows
firewall settings. The procedures apply to both domain and private SNMP settings.

2. On the General tab, change the Startup type to Automatic, and then click Start.
The SNMP Trap services tab looks like the following:

3. Click Apply.

4. Select the Traps tab, and then select the Community name.
5. Click Add under Trap destinations, and then enter the Insight Remote Support host server IP
address.

6. Click Apply, and then click the Security tab.

7. Click Add, and then add the Community name public.


8. Select Accept SNMP packets from any hosts.
9. Click Apply.
10. Click OK, and then repeat this procedure for the SNMP Trap service.

Modifying Windows firewall settings on the Insight Remote
Support host
Enabling Windows Firewall Inbound Rules
Enable Windows Firewall Inbound Rules on the Insight Remote Support host server.
1. Locate Server Manager on the taskbar on Insight Remote Support host.

2. Click Tools to expand the list, and then click Windows Firewall.

3. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Inbound Rules.
4. Scroll down to the SNMP Service and SNMP Trap Service rules.
5. Enable each SNMP rule:
o Right-click the SNMP rule.

o Select Enable Rule.

6. Repeat this procedure for each SNMP service (including SNMP Trap Service), domain and private.
7. Verify that each available SNMP rule on your server has a green check mark.

Configuring Windows Firewall Inbound Rule properties


Make the following changes to the Windows Firewall Inbound Rules for SNMP Service entries, and then
repeat the procedure for the SNMP Trap Service entries on the Insight Remote Support host server.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to repeat the SNMP configuration steps for both the SNMP Services and
SNMP Trap Services on the Insight RS host server, including modification to the Windows
firewall settings. The procedures apply to both domain and private SNMP settings.

1. Expand the Configuration list under Server Manager.


2. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Inbound Rules.
3. Scroll down to the SNMP Service and SNMP Trap Service rules.

4. Verify that each SNMP rule has a green check mark, and that the Enabled status is Yes.
5. Modify the SNMP inbound rules:
a. Right-click an SNMP rule for the Domain profile, and then select Properties.
b. Select the Scope tab.

c. Select Any IP address for both Local IP Address and Remote IP Address, and then click OK.

6. Repeat steps a through c for each SNMP service rule on your system (the example shows two
SNMP Service and two SNMP Trap Service rules).

Enabling inbound file and printer sharing


Enable each of the following File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request ICMPv4-In) rules on the Insight
Remote Support host server:
o Domain
o Private
1. Expand the Configuration list under Server Manager.
2. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Inbound Rules.
3. Scroll down to the File and Printer Sharing rules.

4. Verify that each File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In) rule has a green check mark,
and that the Enabled status is Yes.
Enable file and printer sharing
1. Right-click the ICMPv4-In File and Printer Sharing rule you want to enable, and then select Enable.
2. Click Apply, and then click OK.
3. Repeat these steps for the next ICMPv4-In File and Printer sharing rule.

Creating a Windows Firewall Inbound Rule for iLO


HP iLO uses the RIBCL protocol. Windows Firewall requires an inbound rule to enable the RIBCL protocol
on network port 7906 from the endpoint servers.
Create a new Windows Firewall Inbound Rule.
1. Navigate to and expand the Windows Firewall section of the Server Manager Configuration.
2. Right-click Inbound Rules, and then select New Rule.

This launches the New Inbound Rule Wizard.


3. Select Port, and then click Next.

4. Select TCP to answer the first question.
5. Select Specific local ports: to answer the second question, and then enter 7906 in the text box. The
Insight Remote Support service queries hosts using port 443, but the endpoints respond on port
7906.

6. Click Next.
7. Select Allow the Connection, and then click Next.

8. Verify that Domain, Private, and Public are selected on the Profile screen, and then click Next.

9. Enter a name for this rule in the text box (the example uses Insight Remote Support Registration).
This is the name that appears in the list of Inbound Rules.
10. Click Finish.

11. Verify the new rule configuration.


a. Go to the Windows Firewall, Inbound Rules screen.
b. Scroll down to the name of the new rule you created. The example uses Insight Remote Support
Registration.

c. Right click the rule name, and then select Properties.
d. Click the Protocols and Ports tab.

e. Verify that the local port is 7906, and then click OK.

Enabling Windows Firewall Outbound Rules


Enable Windows Firewall Outbound Rules on the Insight Remote Support host server.
1. Expand the Configuration list under Server Manager.
2. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Outbound Rules.
3. Scroll down to the SNMP Service rules (outbound rules do not include Trap Service rules).
4. Enable each SNMP rule:
o Right-click the SNMP rule.
o Select Enable Rule.

5. Repeat this procedure for each SNMP service, domain and private (outbound rules do not require
SNMP Trap Service rules).

6. Verify that each SNMP rule has a green check mark.

Configuring Windows Firewall Outbound Rule properties


Verify and set SNMP Scope properties.
1. Expand the Configuration list under Server Manager.
2. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Outbound Rules.
3. Scroll down to the SNMP Service rules.
4. Verify that each SNMP rule has a green check mark, and that the Enabled status is Yes.
5. Modify the SNMP outbound rules:
a. Right-click the SNMP rule for the Domain profile, and then select Properties.
b. Click the Scope tab.
c. Select Any IP address for both Local IP Address and Remote IP Address, and then click OK.

6. Repeat steps a through c for all SNMP Service Public and Domain profiles.

Enabling outbound file and printer sharing


Enable each of the following Windows Firewall Outbound Rules for File and Printer Sharing (Echo
Request ICMPv4-In):
o Domain
o Private
1. Expand the Configuration list under Server Manager.

2. Expand the Windows Firewall list, and then select Outbound Rules.
3. Scroll down to the File and Printer Sharing rules.

4. Verify that each File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPv4-In) rule has a green check mark,
and that the Enabled status is Yes.
Enable file and printer sharing
1. Right-click the ICMPv4-In File and Printer Sharing rule you want to enable, and then select Enable.
2. Click Apply, and then click OK.
3. Repeat these steps for the next ICMPv4-In File and Printer sharing rule.

Downloading HP Insight Remote Support software


If the Insight Remote Support v7.0.9 image was not included with the custom image received from
HP, download Insight Remote Support v7.0.9 to the host server. If you need the download to be
portable, copy it from the system to a USB memory stick.
1. Go the following HP website
(http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=REMOTE
SUPPORT).
2. Sign in using your HP Passport credentials.
3. Click Receive for Free from the product page.
4. Complete the registration form, and then click Next.
5. Select HP Insight Remote Support 7.0.9 from the Electronic downloads, and then click Download.

Installing HP Insight Remote Support software


1. Navigate to the location where you saved the HP Insight Remote Support v7.0.9 installation file,
or insert the USB memory stick that contains the installation file.
2. Double-click the executable file to launch the HP Insight Remote Support installation wizard.

3. Click Install.

4. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.

5. When the installation completes, click Finish.

Uninstalling HP Insight Remote Support software


1. Log on to the Insight Remote Support host server as a user with administrator rights.

2. On the taskbar locate the Control Panel.

3. Click and open Control Panel and click on Uninstall a Program.

4. Scroll down to HP Insight Remote Support.

5. Right-click HP Insight Remote Support software in the list of programs, and then click Uninstall.

This removes the basic components of the Insight Remote Support software.
Continue with "Removing program files (on page 37)."

Removing program files


1. Use the Windows file manager to locate the following directory:
C:\ProgramData\HP\RS
2. Delete the RS folder and all of the contents.
3. Locate the following directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\RS
Delete the RS folder and all of the contents.
4. Continue with "Reversing the Insight Remote Support host server settings."
